Liability insurance is only required on personal watercraft. Personal watercraft is defined as, "...a motorboat that is: (a) less than 16 feet in length; (b) propelled by a water jet pump; and © designed to be operated by a person sitting, standing, or kneeling on the vessel, rather than sitting or standing inside the vessel." Utah Code Section 73-18-2(12)
That said, I carry $300,000 in liability coverage, which costs me $76 annually through State Farm Insurance.
