There is no law on boats and insurance, But its a good idea if you have money in it. I just talked to my insurance agent, Sean Beard, American family Insurance, he told me my 14 foot aluminum would be covered under my property/renters insurance I also got an umbrella policy that covers me for another 3 million in personal and property damages. so if i kill someone with my boat and the family sues me I am covered. You should talk to your agent, If this is covered under your property stuff or not..I was given the option of boat insurance, with a 350 deductable, but I am only in to my boat for 200 cash. I am sure that will change, but if anything is stolen it covered under my property insurnace portion of my policy with no deductable..they buy me a new boat of equal size. and motor of equal horsepower. I dont have a trailer, but i think that would be in the deal if that ever happens...
I am unclear on an actaul law for boat insurance though...maybe its for bigger boats..maybe its just suggested. I was told there is not one for my boat.
