Hey there klymons,
If you don't like the halibut drifts.... go WSB fishing and anchor, then soak a squid until the blue perch have totally tore it to pieces and wait for that golden 20 minutes out of 14 hours when the dumb croakers decide to put on the feed bag!
Happening now...... go for it if you dare! ha ha ha

Jeez, that sounds like as much fun as a halibut drift. Or to quote the words from an old Billy Preston song: "Nothin' from nothin' leaves nothin'. . ." If I wanted to just sit there & be bored, I would go to work! It's just amazing what fishermen will put up with. Every once in a while you'll read some overnight fish counts like this--25 anglers, 1 yellowtail, 4 rockfish & 6 barracuda. Now that's a bona fide "lack of action!" Just think of all the money those poor guys spend for absolutely nada! And we don't even want to talk about those long range trips where guys spend thousands to catch nothing but grief(usually from the wife who believes that money would have been better spent on a snazzy new living room ensemble!) Of course, some of the lightweights fall by the wayside, and turn to golf and home improvement for hobbies. But us hardcore anglers--getting up at 2AM in the morning & driving three hours to the landing just to get a choice spot on the stern--we will persevere. Let it rain, let the winds howl, let the waves crest over the bow & soak us. We don't care--bring on the mindless halibut drifts, let us sit on the anchor to wait for non-existent white sea bass, let us yo yo jigs on a mark that the captain insists are yellowtail but turn out to be just a bunch of mackerel on steroids. . .We don't care--just roll the dice and toss the chum. . .We are not just men--we are fishermen!
