Honk If You Hate Halibut Drifts!!!
#1
[mad][mad][mad]I'll be the first to admit it--I have a problem. When I go out on a sportfishing boat, I like to catch fish, and I like to have a reasonable amount of action. What I really hate is getting on a boat & suddenly finding out that "The Famous Halibut Drift" is on the agenda. What that means is that in five hours of fishing, 35 anglers will catch six halibut, and 30 anglers will wind up with empty sacks. That's what happened on a recent outing. Endless drifts & bottomless boredom. I'm not going to single out the landing, because they all do it. Standing at the rail soaking a live squid until it dies of old age is not my idea of a good time. As for those boats who specialize in halibut fishing, forget it. I'd rather stay at home. Of course, a lot of people get all excited by halibut drifts. These are the same people that spend a fortune on the lottery and never win squat. If the sand/calico bass are still on hiatus, let's go catch sculpin or rockfish--let's have some action! But if you're going fishing "just for the halibut" you can leave me at the dock!
