Colorado River - Upper
#1
FISHING: Fair
Flows: 408 Kremling

Clarity: Good… clarity will change depending on the weather patterns. On warm days, expect some discoloration.

Water Temperature: Low 40’s

Major Food Organisms: Midges and baetis

Hatches : Midges and baetis.

14 Day forecast: Look for the fishing to improve dramatically in the next 14 days. Water temperatures will trigger the beginning of the baetis hatch, and many of the trout will make their way into the riffles.

Tips and Other Information: There is more pressure on the Colorado River because the Williams Fork is so low, however; fishing is picking up between Hot Sulphur Springs and the Sun Set Ranch. The fish are still in the slow deep holes, but the water is warming with the recent warm-spell. Look for the baetis hatch to start in the next couple of weeks. Anglers can also expect to see great midge hatches, with several rising trout in the slow deep glides. As far as a nymph fishing is concerned, anything small and white will move several nice fish this time of year (Mercury Midge, Barr’s Pure Midge Larva, and Buckskins).

Effective Patterns: #20-22 Mercury Baetis, #24 Top Secret Midge, #18-20 Buckskin, #20-22 Baetis Sparkle Dun, #22-24 Black Beauty, #22 Mercury Midge, #22 Mercury Blood Midge, #22 Brassie, and #20-22 Sparkle Wing RS II.
