Beach or pier fishing near state park pier

I recently purchased condo on the beach in Myrtle Beach near the state park pier and need to know if buying tackle for beach /surf fishing is worth the effort due to lack of structure etc . , or better off focusing on pier fishing. Also, what tackle would be best for both (rods, reels , line, setups, etc.. Thanks.[reply][/reply]
