I've had my boat on the Bear from the ramp outside the lower gate several times. When you come off your trailer, get into the middle of the river, about 4 to 6 fow average. If you head down river you will end up at the bridges and can't go any further. I recommend you don't go any further down river than the first irrigation gate on the south side. Past that there are some submerged stumps, and if there are folks fishing from the banks and edges, it's quite possible you could hook up their line, or get smacked by a cast line. If you go up river from the ramp toward the hunt club (big red building of the south bank of the river) there are several deeper holes where the river eddys at a bend, and a couple irrigation gates along the north bank. Be careful going toward those irrigation gates. Water goes from about 6-8 ft. up to 2 ft. or less almost instantly. Think it's where the irrigation channel was dug and concrete poured. It's a shear 90 degree depth change. River around behind the hunt club gets pretty shallow too.
Best advice, keep your motor trimed up, keep one eye glued to your sonar, go slow.
