boat customization
#1
I'm looking to all you fishing/boating veterans out there for some ideas about customizing my fishing boat.

1) I'm looking for a good, comfortable captains chair, with good back support, and at a good height. Got herniated disc at L4 / L5 and looking for a really good seat, and maybe pedestal to make this a more comfortable experience.

2) I have a flexible utility water hose from my RV that I want to hookup and use on my boat for washing stuff down. Anybody have recommendations for pumps or setups to make this happen?

3) What is the best water resistant, attractive wood, for finishing out parts of the boat such as the tops of the gunwale and the transom?

Lastly, can anyone recommend a good boat accessories shop in the Salt Lake area that has all the goodies like covers, pedestals, seats, pumps, gauges, etc?

Thanks in advance. RW

There's a lot out there at the big marine stores if you google captains chair. I've had the same herniated disc for three years. This is the chair I have now, and am sitting in/on it daily with no problems. Its the Wise Torsa Proangler. http://www.blackbearsportinggoods.com/To...m?click=12
In past years, I also used a seat and strapped the same lumbar support to it that I use in the truck, in the house, in my camper, and anywhere else I sit for an extended period. http://www.amazon.com/Bodyline-Back-Hugg...detailpage

No surgery for me! I've changed my ways, keep my back straight and supported, quit lifting with my back, and the pain is minimal and tolerable most days.

And don't forget to not sit with your wallet in your back pocket or it will shift the curve of your spine to one side.

Response for #3 --- most outdoor wood is Teak -- don't really know the supplier chain but here a link to a teak wood seller that has pretty good web site:

You might try marine supply, I think that's the name. It's on like 1700 south and 900 west. they have a pretty good supply of boat goodies.

suggestion for #2 - Get a Bilge pump. They are made to be in the water, and they pump out a good pressure. If you have a bilge pump in your boat already, get some tubing of correct size, connect your wash down hose to the output side, and the intake side out the transom under the water line. Possibly T tap it into the line feeding your live well aerator pump so you don't have to put a new hole in the hull. Wire it thru an automotive style rocker switch to the battery.
I did that on my first boat. Worked great.

Good responses on 2 & 3. Regarding your seat, there is a hydrolic seat system that is being advertised for boats. You can probably Google it. Some programs I have seen it on are "Good Fishing", Babe Winkleman's program. He has the same problem you do.
The maker of the seat system is " Smooth Moves". I would check them out !!

Regarding the bilge pump, get a BIG one, 750 gpm or more. Don't know what type of boat you have, but if you can mount it through the transom, with a switch, etc. it will be easier to use than having to hang it over the side !!

Good luck on your customization, be sure to post some pic's !!!

Horrible Freight has some marine 12V impeller pumps that can produce real good pressure. Only $35 or so to boot. My boat is very different from 99.99% of all y'alls so this worked for me. I hooked up a quick connect to the hose and the discharge of the pump so I can stow the hose when not needed. For through the hull I used an anchor coupling with a flat gasket that has pipe thread through the center. A pic will be attached sometime. Eventually I will tee off of it and run it to a little bait station with a handwash area. Future plans when I have nothing else to do.. haha
