Will be in town around Ft Lauderdale & Hollywood - Advise needed!

I'm making my 1st trip ever to Florida in May. If I was going to Hollywood, is there a pier that you would recommend? I'd like to get as many different fish as I can. I would like to night fish as well. Mainly fish off a pier and surf. Maybe even rent a kayak.
