Portable depth finders?
#1
I asked this question on the fresh water forum & got some good insight. One person suggested I ask the ice fishing group.
I'm looking at getting an Eagle 242 or 245 portable fish finder. Are either of these good for ice fishing? Got any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Kevin

I have a lowrance x67c and I love it. It has a flasher mode that works just like the vexilars. I don't know a lot about the others you mentioned because I have mainly been using a camera only and just got mine but I absolutely love it.

the newer modles by far surpass the older modles in speed and quality...

the one I have is 25 years old.. still working great, but it is like the old pong game by atari.... that is if you are old enough to remember the first ever vidio game for tv....[Tongue]

just rember to take a bottle of water with ya, chip a hole in the ice and dip the transducer in to the water, it will find fish though the ice with out having to drill....[Wink]

my portable I take out on the ice and can mount on my boat...

but as for your modles, will they be good for you?, that depends on your style of fishing, I am seeing guys sitting on the ice with vexlars and watching for the red line not even looking at the rods to see if they have a bite...

once I find fish I dont want any more electronics involved, it takes away half my fun of tight lining... if your a tight liner, you wont need any more electonincs other than locating.. my old modle dose have a flasher mode and depth finder mode as well..

I cant tell you any thing about your models, but unless it is broken, eagles brand fish finders run circles around my old model "T" fish finder....
