Bear Lake Fishermen needed at RAC Meeting
#1
[black]Bear Lake fishermen are needed at Wednesday's RAC meeting in Brigham City this next Wednesday to help support measures to help Bear Lake as a viable fishery. Bear Lake fishing, especially the cutthroat fishery, has been declining in recent years. [/black]
[black][/black]
[black]The numbers of cutthroat trout caught last year were the lowest since the early 1990's and for the first time ever, there were more lake trout caught from Bear Lake than cutthroat. [/black]
[black][/black]
[black]Measures need to be taken to shore up this fishery and your help is needed to support them. Cutthroat fishing has really been slow the last few years compared to pre-drought times and we need to make sure that Bear Lake can return to a Premier Cutthroat fishery.[/black]

If you enjoy your outings to BL and wish to help support measures that will be presented to help boost BL's fishery, go to the RAC meeting in Brigham City on Wednesday.

BLM -- We don't see eye to eye all that often. I applaud you for what appears to be support for a native fish in it's historic home. I certainly hope others join in.

What specifically are the measures that will be proposed? This sounds like a worthy effort. It is a shame that Bear Lake's cutts are in decline.

BLM,
Who are you sending the email to. I would love to pitch in my two cents, but as usual I will be on a plane during that time. I definitely would hate to see them loose the one resource that has saved many other fisheries over the years. If we didn't have those same cutts now, the Berry would never be what it is today.

[unsure] I'm also not going to be able to attend. However I would love to send an email to those that need to here from us on this issue. If Someone Can get me a web site I will be glad to include my two cents worth.

[black]As for specific recommendations and proposed measures that will be presented at the RAC meeting, I am not exactly sure but it most certainly involve a combination of a more aggressive planting program, improving habitat, and finding ways to take the pressure off the cutthroat. What that means, I can only presume. I'd hate to say something that was inaccurate and lead others to believe something that will not happen. [/black]

Be absolutely sure that your support is needed and can make a difference. If you go, let the appropriate folks know why you are there. To just show up, say nothing, and leave does not tell anyone the reason(s) you have decided to attend and either voice and support your cause. Thanks for any support you folks can lend. It's for a good cause.

One place to start is killing off the lake trout. Why is Bear lake any different than Yellowstone? You want cutts? Kill off the Mac's.

I personally prefer the Macks. Both can do well I've seen it. Not sure what has changed the last 10 years weather it is the drought, changing water levels, could even be the change in water chemistry that the water from mud lake is bringing in since they put in that new via duct on north beach. I still catch quite a few cuts. Granted not the 40 to 60 fish days I used to have back when but still a respectable days fishing. I believe that if the lake level will come up and stay there and the fish and game raise the cutthroat to a larger fish (which I know is expensive) before planting them the numbers should come up. Just my opion.

Well your opinion is wrong. You can't have it both ways unless you figure the only good fishery is one that needs the hatchery truck every 90 days. Macs or Cutts, seems you choose macs but bitch about the cutt's, you're bound to be unhappy.

WL,

Be very careful on how you reply to posts.... There are alot of people on this site with many many years of experience at bear lake and many other bodies of water (Bodine for one example).I suggest that you back up your slanderous remarks with some facts instead of making rude and unwarranted remarks!

With that being said, I am no expert when it comes to any fishery but I do try to educate myself further than wetting my line. Fishing is a great past time and sport but there is truely a science to it all.

Soooooo, what have you to say? I am interested to hear your side!

Please keep the rude comments about me in private messages though...I am kinda sensitive and the rest of the members don't need to read it!
