Drought??
#1
How many of you think Eastern Idaho is going to pull out of the drought this year?
I had to make this post because this is the first time in several years that the fishing in Eastern Idaho looks like it will be improving. I wouldn't be surprised if we are still lacking a little "ground water" at this time next year but I think the worst of the drought is behind us. Unless things take a turn for the worst next spring I expect to see significant improvements in every body of water hurt by the drought. This time next year will likely be the first time in about 5 years that Chesterfield will have carried over fish from the previous year. If things don't take a turn for the worst Chesterfield will have some real hawgs in a few years. The Porneuf and many of the creeks in Eastern Idaho look like they will likely be the better fishing next year than we have seen for a while. The upper Henry's Fork might even be worth fishing next year. This is the first time in several years that many of the smallmouth eggs at American Falls Reservoir will get to hatch before the reservoir is drawn down. American Falls Reservoir might even be worth fishing for trout next year. The small reservoirs in SE Idaho look like they will be holding many more quality sized trout next spring. PaliSades, Island Park Res, Henry's and Ririe all are in better shape (at least water wise) than they have been for a few years. [Smile]

It will take a couple of years to really be able to tell whether this is the end of the drought or not. I am really excited by what I am seeing so far this year. I can't wait until Chesterfield has some 3-4 year old fish in it. Chesterfield is one of my favorite places of all time. I hope it comes back.

Bear Lake has come up a little over 5 feet.... 14 feet more and it will finally be full. Slow but sure progress!
