Be berry berry careful(1-7-05) report
#1
[green]Blm and I get to the marina and its -12 degrees american. Ain't no thing, we be prepared(right). Some time after 9am, we are heading down the ramp with our two sleds in tow. We get about 30 yards from the gas pumps and it starts to get slushy( I mean real damn slushy. How Fn slushy you ask?). A few feet further and we are stuck in the soup(real damn stuck[blush]). We unhook our sleds. Then rock, drag, and push the snowmobile on firmer terrain. We hook Rich's sled up and have him head straight for the bank to find harder ground(we want to go to the 27incher area). He comes back and gets me and we head over to the double bouys. I'm dropped off and start to setup. He sticks his snowmobile too deep into the soft powder up the bank.

I shake my head and go pull out the stealth auger(Blm's power auger is 100 feet away down the bank). I imediately get hit, and stripped(As usaul Brandon). So far, the only good thing is the "new" blades on the ol stealth auger.

I end up walking over and help Rich get his snowmobile out of the snow. He goes and gets his sled, I go and get stripped again. Alright thats enough, the next hit(as Blm walks over) I stuck the fishface right in the nose,Ha ya bastard.
I drill Rich a couple quick holes. Another slimmer, throw on the ice(stupid fish). Rich catches a couple then go and gets his tent and snowmobile. Oh, the stupid Fn W.... kicks up.(and I want to go home. I hate being sick. I got cold and the Artficial sun is frozen.) Rich drills three holes and sets up his tent for us(my hero! yippeee).

Now, we are ice fishing indoors and watching TV(fishfinders are so cool!). The onsaught begins. HHHmmm maybe I'll Rich tell the rest.
[/green]

[green]The tents heats up and Rich is "en fuego". He nails two fish right away while watching TV! We catching at least 15 fish in the tent(none were photogenic, fat slots). The W... starts to howl at 1:30....Back to dinner

Rich tries to get the snowmobile going. The engine starts fine. But, the tread is frozen solid. 6 inches of hard ice is stuck to the tread from top to bottom. We tip the snowmobile on its side and start a chippin'(this sucks[Sad]). One of us holds to snowmobile up on its side while other chips, tag-team! It took us twenty minutes to chip the ice off the bottom of the treads. Now, my good scoop in ruined.

The rest was unevenful, except I got to drive the snowmobile back to the ramp a couple times[cool]. We caught atleast 20 fish. Lost numerous at the hole, stripped of bait, and a few broke the jigs off.

Bottom line-I had a blast who-who baby!!! I got out of the damn house and fish on my vacation[Tongue]. Now, where is the Benadryl! [/green]

I won't go back up again tomorrow as planned. Way, way, way too damn much powder and slush. It looks like the storm might miss Strawberry, but the roads were getting bad at 4pm. Provo Canyon was pretty dangerous.

Ah. where's your sense of adventure?! I will be taking I-80 to I-40. They usually keep those pretty darn clean. How many feet of power on the lake? 4 feet? Should I bring a boldoser? Wink

[green]Ok, I finished my version of the adventure. We over came stuck in slush, bitter cold W...., frozen snowmobile, and not even getting close to our destination. We were little over a foot field from the Store/lodge. Right next to the bouys. Maybe, we shoud of left from the Mud Creek parking lot to get to Mud Creek's mouth. I had a damn good time hanging out with Rich, that bastard.[Tongue][/green]

[black]Sense of adventure, CBR? I think this trip qualified as an adventure. When you're ready to find out what you're made of, come with the two old, fat guys! HA![/black]
[black][/black]
[black]I just got home. The roads suck! I was in 4wd from Brigham City to Cache Valley and Sardine Canyon was at white out in places. Long, slippery drive but worth it.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]The slush was pretty bad. Dragging sleds and two fat guys on the snowmobile is prone to sinkage in slush condition. Also everywhere you step, you go through to 4 inches of water under the snow. [/black]
[black][/black]
[black]As Tomegun said, it was mega cold. Your icehole would freeze and you'd have to continually skim the hole to keep it free of ice. When the wind started blowing, We decided to bring my quickflip III from the slush free shoreline to our slush infested fishing location 100 ft off shore. [/black]
[black][/black]
[black]I hooked up the quickflip to the snowmobile and slogged through the slush and got the shelter out to our fishing holes. I unhooked the snowmobile from the sled and drove it up on a packed down area out of the water.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]I got the shelter up, heater kicked on and we fished in relative luxury and comfort compare to the cold, windy outside world we had tried to inhabit. It was nice to not have to worry about skimming holes every 30 seconds. Heck, we even shedded to two outer layers of clothing, catching fish and listen to the wind blow.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]At about 2:00 pm. the snow clouds started moving in so we decided to head it on in. Well, What do slushy, wet snow, freezing temps, snowmobiles and 4 hours equal? Well let me tell you. It equals a very frozen track on a snowmobile. The track, whiched had plowed through wet slush had frozen to a very solid ice ball. The snowmobile was dead in the water.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]Tomegun sacrificed his metal scoop and we flipped the snowmobile on it's side and proceeded to chip the ice out of the track and tunnel. 45 minutes later we managed to clear the ice and transportation was again operational. Whew! What a pain in the butt![/black]
[black][/black]
[black]We got everything back to the truck with little fanfare. It was a fun trip but a lot of work for guys who are used to real work![/black]

[cool]Tome, you write some funny stories, man!! I laughed my butt off reading your report. It sucks that you were sick, and that the snow wasn't ideal snowmobile conditions, but hey, at least you caught some fish, and at least you had a shantee. I'm gonna be toughing it out tomorrow like a dumba$$. Us poor folks have to improvise. I just hope there ain't too much W tomorrow. I also hope that I don't have to chain up my car, but may half too right after Heber!

I look forward to my adventure tomorrow.

Geoff: Tomorrow, we have shanty. It is going to be tight but we can also use the two shelters to block the wind.

Ok, ya your right the w... is worst. I want to go tomorrow but not quite stupid enough to brave that kind of wind without a tent. Good luck to eveyone that goes tomorrow!

[black]I don't know about you, Tomegun, but this indian has got a few sore muscles from all that pulling and lifting yesterday. Maybe we need a few young bucks like CBR to get us out of the crap next time! Hey! you boys want to join our tribe? HA![/black]
[black][/black]
[black]It's blowing big time here in Hyrum. I'll bet the Berry is howlin'! Hope them boys are hunkered down good up there![/black]

hey bigcat the slush comes from the snow on the ice.. the more snow on the ice the more weight on the ice.. then the ice sages down from the weight.. then ether someone punches a hole in the ice or a crack opens up and lets the water up on top the ice.. then with the snow on there it is a good insulator and it's like a sponge sokeing up the water but not letting it freez.. and there you have slush on the ice..

so if your going to a lake that has alot of snow on it expect slush on the lake as well..

dude on fish?

[black]Adversity is my middle name! I told Tomegun yesterday that he was on a typical BLM adventure. He laughed. I'm just glad I have such great people to share them with. That makes it worth every second.[/black]

[green]Adversity, where? Yesterdays outing is what fishing is all about. We dealt with each situation as they confronted us, and then didn't let them overwhelm us either. You see, I absolutely enjoy being the first one on the pond and the last one to leave. I always tell my family and my buddies wives"we ain't coming home until I'm done. So, don't wait up for us". A lot people quit when things don't go their way. Well, I believe in 4th quater comebacks, scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the ninth, and making Pepsi out of orange juice!

Did I mention we iced over 20 fish yesterday? HA!
