Barker Reservoir - Fishing for trout is starting to be fair with bait doing better than spoons and spinners.

Bellaire Lake - The lake is mostly open and little ice remains. Fishing is generally slow but a few nice catches have been made using salmon eggs, Sparkle Power Bait and Kastmasters. The road and campground are scheduled to open May 15. At present foot access only.

Big Creek Lakes - Road to the lake is closed. Access by snowmobile only and the lakes are still totally iced up. They usually open in late May but, due to recent heavy snow, the Forest Service may not be able to open the campground and road until June.

Big Thompson Ponds - Catfish are being caught on chicken livers and all the usual stinkbaits in the back pond, and sunfish and bluegill are starting to hit in the front pond. Bass fishing is generally slow though a few have been caught on spinner baits and buzzbaits.

Big Thompson River - Flow is 66 cfs, water is clear and trout fishing is good. Fish are taking Beadhead Prince Nymphs, Caddis Larva and Elkhair Caddis. Lure casters are doing well with silver Mepps and Panther Martin Spinners, and bait fishermen are catching fish where permitted with salmon eggs and Power Bait.

Boedecker Reservoir - The lake is filling slowly but the boat ramp is out of the water and not many anglers are fishing here.

Boulder Reservoir - Boaters and bellyboaters are having the most luck on walleyes. Use plastic Mr. Twisters in shades of green, black and white. Minnows and worms are catching some bass and crappie off both dams. Fishing is will pick up later this month into early May.

Boyd Lake - Lake has been stocked and anglers have been doing well catching 12-14-inch trout. Best lures are Thomas Buoyants, Krocodiles and Kastmasters. Bait of all kinds always works. A few nice catfish have been taken by boats using minnows and crawlers along the eastern shoreline.

Carter Lake (West of Loveland) - Water level is good but fishing is only fair. It should improve when the lake is stocked. Some fish have been caught by boaters trolling Dick Nites, Needlefish and Sep's flutter spoons.

Dowdy Lake (Red Feather) - Ice is all gone and fishing is fair to good. Trout are hitting on Thomas Buoyants, Little Cleos and Cyclones. Power Bait, eggs and worms are also catching fish near the dam face and on the southwest side. Some nice fish have been taken on Dick Nite and Needlefish lures trolled in the southwest corner.

Estes Lake - The lake is open, fairly clear and nearly full. Fishing for trout is good at the inlet with Power Bait, eggs and worms. Lure casters are also having luck with Z-Rays, Thomas Buoyants and Kastmasters.

Hohnholz Lakes - Fishing has been slow with some caught on bait in Lake #2 and on metal lures in Lake #3 along the base of the dam. Recent snow has made access difficult and roads very muddy.

Horsetooth Reservoir - The reservoir is full after a three-year drawdown for dam repairs and other improvements. Although no game fish were stocked while the water level was low, the lake is rich in natural food and has a healthy population of smallmouth bass, walleyes, crappie and bluegill. Water temperature is in the low 40s and anglers report fair to good fishing for all species.

Jackson Lake - Fishing is good for trout and channel catfish, fair for wiper, and slow for other species. Most fish are being caught along the boat ramp, dam, and west shore. Some wipers are also being caught at the inlet and along the north shore. Surface water temperature is 61 degrees. Use Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout, nightcrawlers for other species. Also try minnows, crayfish, mussels, shad, rubber jigs, Rat-L-Traps, Twister Tails and any silver/white minnow imitation. Fishing is better in the afternoons when sun has warmed the water.

Joe Wright Reservoir - Frozen with soft spots. Ice fishermen should use great caution though ice-off not expected until early May. This is a good lake for grayling after ice-out.

Jumbo Reservoir - Jumbo is full again after running dry last year but agricultural draws will lower water levels as summer progresses. The lake is usually stocked with put-and-take trout in spring and fall, when the water is cool, but will not be stocked with warm-water species this year. Jumbo Annex, a 60-acre lake beneath the main reservoir has bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish. It also is stocked with trout in the cooler months.

Lake John - Mostly open with little ice remaining. Fishing is fair using salmon eggs, crawlers and Power Bait. This lake harbors a tremendous population of rainbows and brown trout including large brood fish.

Laramie River at Hohnholz SWA - Flow is 53 cfs but will increase rapidly as recent snow melts. Fishing will improve until the water becomes too discolored. Already, some nice 12 to 15-inch brown trout have been caught here on Panther Martin, Vibrax and Mepps Black Fury spinners.

Lon Hagler Reservoir - The lake has been stocked and trout are hitting well on Power Bait, nightcrawlers, Kastmasters and small Daredevls. Water level is dropping and fishing remains slow for warm-water species. Several large tiger muskies have been seen by anglers but none caught.

North Delaney Lake - Mostly open and little remaining ice. Expect a good hatch of Damselfies immediately after all the ice is off and fish the weed beds with shrimp and scud pattern nymphs. Good metal lures are Thomas Buoyants, Cyclones and Kastmasters.

North Michigan Lake - Still iced up, should clear by mid-May. Campsites here remain open all winter long and the road is open.

North Park Streams - The Illinois River is open and flowing at 26 cfs. The North Platte and Michigan should also have plenty of open water to fish, though access may be difficult in some areas due to mud and/or snow. Panther Martins, Mepps Black Fury and Vibrax spinners work well on these streams. Flyfishers do best nymphing with Stoneflies, hellgrammites, Prince Nymphs and Hornbergs.

North Sterling Reservoir - Reservoir is nearly full and water temperature is 55 degrees. Fishing is fair for wipers near the dam on nightcrawlers. Catfish are also hitting on cut bait or worms in northern coves. Fishing is fair for crappie along the dam on minnows and jigs. Fishing is poor for walleyes and saugeyes, but a few have been caught on nightcrawlers at the north end of the dam. Elks Campground is open for the season.

Pinewood Reservoir - Ice is gone, open water and fair to good trout fishing with bait of all kinds. A few small tiger muskies, 24 to 30 inches, have been caught and released. The size limit on tigers is 36 inches. Larger fish have been seen but not caught. Use large Cop-E-Cats and Mepps Syclops.

Poudre River - River is clear, flowing at 76 cfs through the canyon, and fishing has been good with Beadhead Hare's Ear, Beadhead Prince and Flashabou Olive nymphs. Lure casters do best with Panther Martin, Mepps Black Fury and Vibrax spinners. The Best fishing at the present time is through the narrows and Indian Meadows. Not much runoff expected this year.

Prewitt Reservoir - Prewitt is only half full, the boat ramp is out of the water and it's quite a hike for carry-in boats. The lake suffers periodic algae blooms but still harbors a fair population of saugeyes and catfish, which become more active as the water warms.

St. Vrain Ponds (formerly Barbour Ponds) - Fishing is excellent for stocker trout. One angler reported that he and his son-in-law caught 60 fish in four hours using gold-colored Kastmasters with a red stripe. Current temperature is 46 degrees and the ponds are above normal water level. Catfish, smallmouth bass and crappie will become more active as the water warms.

Union Reservoir (Calkins Reservoir) - Water level is three feet below full and fishing for wipers is good with worms, shrimp or clam strips. Most of the fish caught from shore are 16-17 inches. Flyfishers are also catching wipers on white or chartreuse Clouser Minnows, with some anglers releasing 20 to 30 fish daily. The lake has also been stocked with trout and fishing for them is good from shore using worms or Power Bait. A few crappie and walleyes are being caught on minnows and small jigs. Current park hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Camping will open May 1.

Watson Lake - Smallmouth bass are becoming more active, with some nice fish of 16-18 inches being caught by anglers using crankbaits and plastic worms. Trout fishermen are also catching nice fish on Thomas Buoyants, Panther Martins and Vibrax spinners.

Wellington Reservoir #4 - Fishing for stocker trout has been good with bait and catfish are being caught on typical stinkbaits. Warm-water species will become more active in May.

West Lake (Red Feather) - The lake is ice-free and campground is due to open May 15. The day use parking area on the west side is open for walk-in access. Fishing has been good with small Kastmasters and Thomas Buoyants on the east and south side.
