Fished the rattle snake creek area today for about 5-6 hours. I was planning to fish cemetery point but was told by the guard station you have to pay the $18 fee to drive beyond the station and they don't allow parking along the road. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I can understand maybe $10 to launch a boat but $18 to park a car?? I now understand the frustrations some of you have about the over-regulation and high prices to fish Pineview. So rattle snake creek it was.
After four hours of fishing, I'd only managed one bass that succumbed to a swimbait. I'd tried jerkbaits, tubes, flukes, texas rigged robo worms, senkos, etc but they weren't too interested. Having exhausted all other options I resorted back to tried and true drop shot. I used some plastic minnows off a point and finally landed another bass. During the next 45 minutes the wind picked up but I ended the day with 10 bass and one tiny yellow perch that was too small to bite my minnow but was snagged on the hookset. I've found that when the going gets tough while float tube fishing for bass, drifting a drop shot off points with small baits works pretty effectively. They may turn down a senko but they'll be hard pressed to resist a dying minnow imitation on a drop shot.
Long day overall but it always feels good to figure out the fish and remember what it feels like to set the hook []
