Cascade produced my best ever perch
#1
My brother Patrick and I went up to Lake Cascade over the last weekend and joined BFTers DUBob, WyoGuy, his nephew Rowdy Dean and the K2 duo. Ice conditions were a little slushy on Friday but improved as the slush hardened as the temps dropped a little. Conditions allowed the use of my Can-Am ATV and the others used their snowmobiles. Other fishermen on the lake were using a mix of sleds and ATVs.

We fished out of the Poison Creek access and found the best fishing in water around 30 feet deep. Normal perch jigs and bait produced decent results. Fishing started slow on Friday and gradually improved over the weekend. Patrick and I had to come home on Sunday and we left at noon after a very productive morning. The last photo shows the perch we caught on Sunday morning. My best ever perch came last Friday afternoon. It was 15.25 inches long and it weighed 2.16 pounds on my brother's scale.

I hope to make another trip this winter for the Tackle Tom's tourney in mid February.

Way to go Mike!!!! Nice batch of fish, but that one is a bruiser.... Nice report and sounds like it was a good time... Glad the weather straightened around for you so you could have some great results... Ended up a good thing I stuck around, in-laws ended up in the hospital most of the weekend, so it's good I was there to help out... I'll be feeling bad about missing out though, looks like it was a great weekend... later J

I had a family get together with a the cousins at Cascade a few weekends ago. We started at Poison Creek and only caught 2 fish from about 8 until noon. We drove around to the other side of the lake and caught some PIGS the whole afternoon until dark. Mostly perch, and a few trout. When the school would come through, we couldn't get lures back in the hole fast enough to catch more!

Glad you had a great trip!

I am trying to get up to cascade the 16th-19th of Feb. I was wondering if you might PM me any intel as I am going to take two others, one of which is in pretty tough health. Can you tell me anywhere to stay reasonably and where to start to look for these perch. We will have a 4 wheeler. Thanks for any help you might offer as well as any contacts up there I could contact prior to heading up. Thanks...Steve

I will send you a PM shortly. Gotta watch the Vikes win! (Wife's from MN)

Update: I suspect the Vikes won't be playing the Pats in the Superbowl.

Sorry about your Vikes taking a nose dive, but they are famous for that. Hopefully the Eagles can handle the "Brady Bunch" in the Super Bowl. I backed out of my first planned trip to Cascade but if conditions are good still planning on one after my Wy. goose hunt next week.

I didn't share my wife's steadfast feeling the Vikes would be the first ever team to have home field for a Superbowl. At least I didn't have to buy her airline ticket so she could join all the parties back in Mankato.

Good luck on your goose hunt and your trip to Cascade. Things are looking good for me and a couple of friends to get up there for the Tackle Tom's tourney in mid February. Take care.
