Ok, so most of you from Idaho know that the Governor travels the state and has what he calls Capital for a Day in one of the towns/cities in Idaho where he holds public participation, issues, and even signs bills around the State. Well, I got a text from Tom Wolf, director for the State Invasive Species program who is over the Quagga Mussel Species and other such programs and the Governor is holding Capital for a Day in Paris, Idaho on Friday April 29. He thought that this might be a chance for folks down in that corner of the State to get over and ask him a few questions on this program. I said I would pass it on so if anyone down that way can slip over there and explain what some issues for fishermen/recreationist are and why more money cant be dumped over here and/or put in more inspection stations, in light of the program getting increased by around $1,000,000.00 more seems ridiculous that SE Idaho couldn't get a little bit of the increase to help.
Just a thought to try and help us all out. I appreciate that the close work with this State Program is concerned over same issues and is willing to pass information like this along to see if the public can help out.

All the gubermint will do is raise the price of boat registration and fishing licenses, specially out of staters. Get the power companies to pay more.

I spoke with the mayor of Paris, his name is Brent Lewis. He seems like a great person and was very friendly. I expressed concerns about having more funding to fight invasive species in our part of the state, mostly Bear Lake and I hope he will pass on the information to Mr. Otter. There are two times when we can speak with governor Otter 9am and 1pm at the Paris elementary in Paris. I am going to try and get over there myself but wanted to pass on the information for anyone who wanted to go themselves as well. Hope it helps.....

Ya know, you raise a great point. But, to date, I have not heard very much, maybe some place but haven't seed it, about this little creatcher affection our hydro plants. In fact, around Preston, non of the affected waters have a hydro on them. They are all irrigation. And as far as I know, nothing in East Idaho that has a hydro on it at all has any inspection station or requirement on it. Of anything that could be economically damaging, look at the hydro plants and what could be there if this got in those waters. So, to ask the power plants at this time to pony up more money may be a little bit to drastic and knowing how they can raise our electric rates on just a whim, OMG just think if they take this one and run.
Also, I appreciate going to the effort to go to Paris and try and talk to the Governor. If I weren't so far, Id be there bright and early to at least put the discussion on the radar. Good luck and hope it might do something.

And there you have it. Those lakes all are private property and you can't blame the farmers for protecting their interests. They allowed fish to be planted, remember we live in trout country. If it continues to be an aggravation I could see them draining the ponds in the fall. Rental boats would be a great answer to this dilemma. Allowing more gubermint into private property rights is assine.

Sounds like, according to Channel 8, that there were a number of folks in Paris today to visit and discuss the mussel issue with the Governor. That included a number of Franklin Co. Commissioners. Sounded like it may have been the top issue discussed. Let's hope it did some good financially to help out and open up the waters earlier or longer. Government on this issue has to help private waters. private owners cant do this one alone.
