Some of you know there was a Bassmaster tournament April 2 through 4 which was won on senkos in the shallows north of Echo. What changed since then is those largemouth are uber pressured and extremely spooky guarding nests. Not many are locked on.
Fishing 2 days consecutively I found the conditions changing rapidly. I'd discount any "dock talk" you may have heard; those nest waypoints are likely useless also; conditions are evolving rapidly.
The smallmouth spawn in that area is long over. I found numerous abandoned nests and no fry over two days. I am guessing the lowering water level caused another year class loss. The largemouth are nesting and on Wednesday I got pecked mercilessly, but from what I observed these few "locked on" fish are savy to lures. They were mostly not locked on. No pecking fish got in the boat but I did catch a good sized smallmouth of a nesting spot and a very big for Mead largemouth off a nesting spot. Either backs of pockets or subtle rock features on secondary points.
Downstream of the Echo Narrows the water temps are 1 to 2 degrees cooler. It is still cool at night. Morning surface temps range about 59 to 60 warming to 67 or 69 in very protected spots. Main lake is about 58 to 60 in that area.
