Outboard Advice Follow Up
#1
Ok guys,

I need a bit more advice on my motor. I read a couple of guides on changing the lower gear oil and all of them say to do it with the motor upright. But looking at my motor it looks as if it should be done with the motor laying on the garage floor. The vent and fill hole are aligned properly then. One thing that puzzles me though is the screw head sizes. The fill screwhead is pretty large, easily twice as large as the vent. But the hose in the fill kit I bought matches the vent hole.

As far as I see it I can do two things:

Fill it with the motor laying on the floor. This would be hard as the fill hole is so large it won't accept the fill kit tube I bought or even if I cut the end from a container of lower gear oil. I'm sure I could do it however if this is the proper way.

As another option, I could keep the motor in an upright position and use the hole marked vent to fill it. The hole is the proper size to accept the fill kit tube or the tip to the container of lower gear oil. In this position, the fill hole would be 1/8" to 1/4" above the vent hole. This wouldn't leave very much room for oil in the reservoir.

I'm hoping that that was clearly stated, but I have a digital camera and I can email or post pictures if will help anyone understand this better. I don't know how to post a pic, but I'm sure I could figure it out if I had too.

Let me know what you think,
Mark

On second thought I figured I'd post pics anyhow.. it's got to be easier.
ps. I'm going get a gas can and hose right now. I don't think the few I saw at Wal-Mart matched and I'm not sure if they have all the fittings I need to put one together from the universal kit.. we'll see.

Does anyone know a good store with a wide selection of outbord fuel couplings or complete fuel hose systems? Nothing at Wal-Mart, K-Mart or the couple of marine stores I went to today would work. I can get the coupling from Sears for $30.00, but I wanted to take the boat out this weekend so I was hoping to find the part locally. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mornin' Telbone,

You may try putting this question in the Freshwater section. You could find more people that are familiar with the Gamefisher.
Have you tried Lake Mead Hardware for the coupling. I don't know if they would have it but when I need something off the beaten path they sometimes have it.

Take care,
David

Ok guys,

Thanks for the help. A guy at work recommended a place nearby so I went after work and they had the part. Made the hose, hooked her up and let her rip. She was cranky at first, but after staying with it for quite a bit she started up and ran for 30 minutes. The impellor is working... I ascertained that right away and I revved her a bit. After she warmed up she ran fine... I do think the mix is rich though. The sign on the motor recommends 50:1 and I put 32:1... I'll probably do 40:1 and then 50:1 in successive tanks just to see how it runs with those. Over the weekend we'll see how it does, though we'll be doing out fishing and camping upriver just in case Smile.

Anyhow, thanks for the help guys,
Mark
