Lake Mead 1-5-15
#1
My buddy and I headed out of Boulder Harbor around noon. Hit the wash and the lake had risen several feet since last time out about three weeks ago. Took awhile to locate the shad but when we did we noticed they were much larger than before even though I read from other posts they were smaller. Most were 4-6 inches. Anyway tried several locations in the wash at different depths but no luck. Headed to Pyramid Island again and we started catching fish. Ended up with six fish in about two hours. Was a nice day and a lot of fun. Wish we could catch em in the wash too. Not sure why we don't get them there when everyone else seems to. Posted a couple pics including the shad. I let the chunky small mouth go.

I checked Pryamid on Monday's trip and didn't see squat on the sonar. That was the trip we only caught 4 and buzzed all over the southern end of the lake looking for them.

Congrats on the Shad, Sure wish we had that luck. Both Monday and Friday only a couple of the good sized shad like you posted. Those are Striper catchers for sure!. 99% of my shad catches have been nearly half that size. Might be the location of tossing the net... I might need to change it up some next time out.

Nice Smallie!

Last time out (3 weeks ago) if you were looking at the wash where the water dumps in from a boat there was a point off to the left and always had people fishing from there. near that point is where we used to get the shad. Now that the water is higher we found them on the left side about 150 yards further in also near a point. we were literally throwing the net just a couple feet from the shore as it was still probably3 or 4 feet deep and no shore anglers to contend with. we threw in multiple spots for quite awhile before finding them. After fishin for awhile with no luck we went straight back to that spot and replenshed our shad supply in just a few minutes and headed to Pyramid..I was wondering where about in the wash area are you catching the fish and is it morning or all day you are having success?

Same places we were at for the most part catching shad. I guess timing on the bigger ones was it. Might be a later in the day thing too.

I replied on the other thread irt your other question/s.
