Need advice on Spinning reel
#1
I am currently considering a Pflueger President 6930 or 6935 but am concerned with its ability to only hold 8-10lb test depending on the model? Will this be good for Strippers and Catfish on lake mead? Will it also work for Trout? My current rod is an Ugly Stick Medium-Heavy 7'0".

I only used Spincast reels growing up with my father so I am still new to this style of reel.

I think you will be fine with 10lb test line as long as you have your drag set correctly. However, you could get a braided line that is the same diameter as 10lb test but would really be about 30lb test line. I have 40lb braid on both of my bait rods with a 12lb fluorocarbon leader.

Buy the best you can afford.

My fishing partner/girlfriend got a Pflueger President.at Bass Pro Shop when the deals were on. She likes it.

Handles 10lb. Fluorocarbon well. I did a top shot with 40# braid and about 2 max casting lengths of Fluorocarbon "leader".

I like the US Reels Super-caster. Out of production; you find them on eBay. A new in the box 320 SX auctions for about $60. An XL is the less fancy model (fewer bearings) but still solid. I would stay away from the X model and sizes below 230

Daiwa, Quantum, Shimano make a good mid range reel. Some like the Shimano Stradic. Sometimes Tackle Warehouse has deals.

Gotta do the research. I suggest you keep your minimum purchase price at or above $70. No need for something above the $150 range: just be bells and whistles added in.
