Sunnyside
#1
I had to go to Elko last week for a funeral, so I took my grandson and promised him some camping and fishing on the way back. We made it to Sunnyside on Thursday night in time to set up camp. We got up at daylight to try the fishing at Dacey which allows artificial lures only. We have a pedal boat which works out good for the two of us to fish out of if there's no wind. Friday morning was great with little or no wind. We were mostly fishing for bass and caught quite a few on plastic grubs. My grandson tried a Mepps spinner and he also caught some trout. There were quite a few fly fisherman there in float tubes and float boats who seemed to be doing good. We went in for some lunch and then the wind came up in the afternoon. We were looking forward to the evening bite, but we only got to go out for about an hour before dark and only caught a few bass.
We went back to camp hoping for a better morning on Saturday. Unfortunately we still had wind in the morning and went out for a little while with no success. We decided to break down camp and get ready to head home. For those who have been there, you know that there are several other reservoirs that also have good fishing. We went across Adams-McGill on the way out and the wind didn't look too bad --- so we tried it there for awhile with good success for bass, but no trout. Then the wind came up again and we had to work hard to pedal our way back to the ramp. Overall, it was a great trip with my grandson! The camping is primitive and the water is still not on at the campground. The dust is terrible, but when we could fish, it was worth it. The bass we caught were between 8"-12" and the trout were between 12"-16". [fishin]
