Memorial Day Weekend has been really busy and the fishing was great so it seems everyone had some good fun in CABO and many thanks for the vets who fought and died for our freedoms around the world. It is deeply appreciated for all your sacrifices and we thank you all.
Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: The water temperature is like 79 to 80 degrees and we are just waiting for things to bust wide open. With those temperatures we are going to start seeing Blue Marlin and lots of Dorado move into the area. It has started to break loose and I am seeing some good fishing coming all through summer.
WEATHER: Well our first named storm is out to see as I write this and it is called Amanda. It is about 800 miles south west of Cabo as of last night and its moving very slow and last I checked was a category 4 hurricane and one of the strongest in the eastern pacific this early in the season ever. It is no threat to land at this moment but it has made things a little more humid than normal over the last couple days.
BILLFISHING: The fishing remains pretty good as we are catching good numbers of Marlin from the 1150 inshore to Chileno Bay and all th way up to pump house. They are hitting on a variety of live bait, lures and ballyhoo. There are lots of fish out there it looks as though you just have to find the ones that are hungry and willing to strike, but there are out there. All the other fleets are also reporting good numbers of Marlin over this past week and with warm water in the area I am thinking the consistent fishing will continue.
BAIT: Bait is the standard 3.00 dollars a piece and there has been plenty around:
DORADO: The Dorado seem to be all over the place and the best action is inshore around Chileno Bay and Santa Maria. Most are being landed by using ballyhoo and live bait slowed trolled but it seems there are a lot of very smalls ones and few big ones hanging out in pairs. If you hook one of the bigger ones and pitch some live bait while you are reeling in the fish chances are you will hook the female which is normally a lot bigger.
TUNA: No Tuna this week and it has been slow throughout the year its as if they haven’t showed up yet. We did have some days where a few were caught out side of the San Jamie Banks so we went to look for them and its as if they just disappeared.
INSHORE: The inshore fishing has been ok for small Roosters on live bait from Grey Rock to the pump house in tight to the beach. There has also been good numbers of small Dorado and when I say small I mean bait size but a few keepers. LOL.
WAHOO: This week a few Wahoo were caught but more being lost if your not running wire as it usually gets bit off. The jet heads and black and purple are working best with a wire leader.

Grilled Whole Red Snapper
· COOK THE FISH: Pick your favorite flavor combination (Mexican, Asian, Mediterranean or Caribbean, at left).
· Choose one of the flavor combinations and chop all of the ingredients except the oil together with a large pinch of salt. Transfer the paste to a small bowl and stir in the oil. Make 5 parallel 3-inch-long slashes on each side of the snapper, slicing almost through to the bone. Lightly season the fish with salt and fill the slashes with the paste. Rub the fish all over with canola oil.
· Light a grill and oil a grill basket that's large enough to hold the fish. Set the fish in the basket and grill over moderate heat, turning once, until the flesh just flakes with a fork, about 20 minutes. Carefully remove the fish from the basket and transfer to a platter. Using 2 forks, lift the fillets off the bones and serve.
Mexican Ingredients: One whole 3-pound red snapper, cleaned and scaled

Asian Ingredients
[ol][li]1/4 cup chopped cilantro [/li][li]2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger [/li][li]2 scallions, finely chopped [/li][li]1 garlic clove, minced [/li][li]1 teaspoon Asian sesame oil [/li][li]1 tablespoon canola oil, plus more for rubbing [/li][/ol]
Mediterranean Ingredients
[ol][li]1/4 cup finely chopped parsley [/li][li]2 tablespoons salted capers, rinsed and finely chopped [/li][li]2 garlic cloves, minced [/li][li]1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper [/li][li]1 tablespoon canola oil, plus more for rubbing [/li][/ol]
Caribbean Ingredients
[ol][li]2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger [/li][li]1 garlic clove, minced [/li][li]1 serrano chile, seeded and minced [/li][li]1 teaspoon chopped thyme [/li][li]1/8 teaspoon ground allspice [/li][li]1 tablespoon canola oil, plus more for rubbing [/li][/ol]
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jc sport Fishing, Pisces Sport Fishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. They don’t even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report.
