[cool]Looks like it might be a great value. I have been enjoying my Cuda 168 for several months, and have used Eagle sonars on my tubes for about 10 years. They are well worth the pricetags.

I would imagine that the GPS would be a big boon for guys that fish the larger bodies of water and need to keep track of underwater structure and hotspots. The extra bucks on top of the sonar system is much less than buying a separate unit.

I haven't been able to locate any reviews yet, but I am sure there will be some soon. In the meantime, I do not think one could go too far wrong in getting this new hybrid system.

If you do get one, we expect a full report.

That sounds like something I would like for Christmas. Since I don't have a fireplace, maybe I could just hang a stocking on my tube.[Wink]

[cool]Hey, Petty, you should get a commission...or at least a hefty discount on your own system.

Hope you can swing it soon, and that you will honor us with a review. From everything I can determine, it looks like a good system at a reasonable price.

I used to hang out at the Anglers' Inn stores up there, during the days I was doing a lot of the pioneering for float tubing in Utah. It was rare that I didn't get involved in sales of tubes, fins, waders and the like. We actually had some on-the-water seminars where we took a couple of vans loaded with new gear up to Strawberry...or some other water. We would get somebody outfitted, send them out to paddle around a fish a bit, and they would usually come back in and want to write a check for the whole outfit. Had more than a few of them say "I ain't gettin' out of this rig."

We have one new Sportsmans' Warehouse that just opened down here...with two more set to go in soon. I haven't been to the one on the opposite side of town from where I live. There will be one of the new ones very close to where I work.

Don't hesitate to ask for your discount, and don't forget to do your review.

[cool][blue]I am sure that you had good reasons for your decision. I hope it works out the way you want it to. [/blue]

[#0000ff]Naturally, we expect the report on that one, as soon as you have put it through the paces.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]What kind of battery power does it need...amp/hours? As I recall, it is a bit higher wattage.[/#0000ff]

Is that 3200 or 320 watts?? That seems like it will suck a battery dry in a short time. My FF is only 250watts which is 1/4 of an amp. Sounds like it was intended more for a big boat. Please let me know before I buy one too.

Hi there petty4life,

I just found a really small sonar/fish finder unit made by bandai! Only complication is you have to have a hand-held PDA to use the product. Sorry, No specs or this and that but the item is under the bandai name on the net!

[blue]Hey, P4L, I read down through the thread on the Utah board. For the triple use angle (boat, pontoon and ice fishing), I think you probably made a good decision. [/blue]

[#0000ff]The higher output (wattage) will take a small gel cell battery down faster, but should be adequate for most short pontoon trips. If you are going to do an all day shot, get two batteries and switch at mid day if necessary. A battery tester is a good investment, to be sure you still have enough juice for a jaunt.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Having the ability to watch your lure, in real time, is a big advantage in ice fishing. However, for most float tube (pontoon) fishing, the cone angle might not be big enough to pick up the lure unless you fish right between your legs. That could be hazardous.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The increased sensitivity will also help on the readout when you are fishing for species that hug the bottom. Most units do not pick up fish within a foot of the bottom. I often catch bottom hugging fish without seeing anything on the screen of my low end Eagle units.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Now you have to figure out the rigging so that you can switch your new toy back and forth as needed. Have fun and good luck.[/#0000ff]

Hey Petty, Sounds like an efficient unit. It's good to know that it won't suck your battery dry in a short time.

I finally found a solar panel that I could adapt to my tube battery. That will enable me to go on longer weekend trips with needing to plug into the wall. I'm sure it would be handy for ice fishing as well.

I just need to plan me a weekend where I can get away long enough to give it a full test.
