I didn't really mean to go fishing yesterday. It just happened [Wink] Got off work way early and just happened to get home at 3:15am. More or less the exact time I set my alarm for when I go out. Thought about it for a second. Semi clear skies, stars everywhere, weather forcast didn't look bad and didn't look good for the rest of the weekend. What the heck I can sleep later in life. I keep the boat prepped and ready for when a emergency fishing trip might just pop up!

Anyways, fishing sucked. I was hoping for the semi overcast weather around the valley and slight winds to kick things up and not... Just straight up tough fishing. You more or less have to live by the drop shot and after time that gets boring. Most of the fish I found were more or less out in the center of bays/coves near the opening in 20-40 feet of water and really the only way to effectively target them is drop shot. That in turn leads to a ton of small fish. Fun but... I like to be a little more active. I did catch some stuff closer in and in shallower waters but far and few. I caught a whole mess of Smallies out in 30+ foot of water going into the 40s at one spot. All small. I had one bigg'un chase a huge 6XD crank all the way to the boat that I would of loved to of caught. Gave me some hope of bigger stuff...

Two of my best three did come via a Jerkbait (Pointer XD). The third came from a SK 3XD Crank (smallie). Love the Jerkbait bite but waaaay too much work. I don't mind work but my arms straight up go to jelly after using a Jerk for any lengh of time. So only threw it for short periods then a break to something else. If you can get a crank to them they kill it! Brutal hits and they take it deep. None of that swatting at it stuff. Hungry fish out there if you can find them and get something to them.

Caught 18 fish between sunrise and 3 in the afternoon. Constant wind but nothing too much. There was a whole lot more people on the water than I thought there would be for a Thursday.

The last couple trips have been real grinders... The couple before it was 50-60 fish in the boat by noon. Not right now for me...

The only decent one worthy of a picture for the day...

Good report. I had similar issues on Friday out of Echo and found the same results...drop shot in the center of coves seemed to be the only decent way. I ended up chasing stripers for the second part of my day just to catch something. Even night fishing was slower then normal. Wonder if the weather patterns are having an effect on the fishes behavior.

Weather certainly has to... Just before the weather went south we were catching them left and right (several back to back weekend trips) then the last 2-3 trips working hard for just a couple... I don't mind the drop shot now and then but not for the entire day.
