Lake Mead 06/28(ish)

I've not posted a report on my fishing adventures so far, but thought I'd give it a shot.

Been stalking the forum for a while trying to pick up information. Figured I'd follow recent advice and try out the area along the Boulder Beach this trip.

Got on the water around 7:00pm Friday with the intention of fishing 'till around 3:30am with cut anchovies. Water temperature was 87 degrees according to my depth finder, and when the breeze would die off it was HOT.

I anchored up in about 70 feet of water and only caught one stripper before getting restless around midnight and decided to try trolling crank baits along the shore in 40 to 60 feet of water east towards the other boat harbor. Had a couple of strikes but no hook ups. In hind sight, I should have gone back to the ~40 foot depth area and tried anchoring again to fish with the cut anchovies.

Anchored up again in about 60' of water, I'm guessing about between the fishing pier and the islands. I heard what sounded like lots of fish jumping out of the water, but couldn't come up with anything. Around 3:30 decided to slow troll back towards Boulder Harbor and took a long way there out into deep water and back around past the water inlet. Stopped along the shore just past the water inlet to try casting along the rocks and got a nice sided cat fish and a tiny smb that I put back.

It was a nice night because the wind stayed away for the most part with just enough breeze to keep the air moving and not too hot & humid.

I'm torn as to where to go next time. Either along Boulder Beach again, or over around Gvmt Wash / Hole 33 area. I've struggled lately to get much of anything in the boat and I'm really anxious for some good action.

Great report. Wish I had the luck that you did. I have yet to catch a striper on Lake Mead. I have caught everything else except a striper. On a different note, I'm a U of U grad too (law school).
