Hansen Lake fishing report 11/16
#1
We arrived at Hansen Lake at sunrise. The local temperature was 40 degrees. WHAT!!!! This is Southern California we are talking about here. Sure wish I would have brought the thermies. Oh well. I would have to be shorts and 3.5 neoprenes.

Just as soon as we were ready we did a prelaunch check on our tubes, we were out on the water. TubeNtoo wasn't to happy with the wind situation so he decided to anchor himself to a bouy.

It wasn't long befor he warmed up a bit and cut himself loose from the bouy to hook up with a big cat. That one got away before I could get the camera closer. He was really upset.

After the water warmed up a bit,

We were able to get into some trout action.

That was TubeNtoo's first trout.
It was enough to get a Smile on his face even though we didn't catch any thing else.

We left around 11:00.

[cool]Looks like you got a taste of what to expect on Saguaro next week. I project that the air temps will be in the forties in the morning, but the water temps should still be above 60.

Bring swimbaits and dropshot stuff for bass. Maybe some topwater stuff or rip baits. I will provide the "trinkets" for jigging up some yellow bass and/or cats.

We are supposed to have a weather front going through Friday, with the temps dropping on Saturday. But, I will try to get on the water to check it out so that we can rig right later in the week.

[cool]Only if you wanna join the crazies along the shore, fishing for the newly dumped hatchery pets. The ones I saw last week are disgusting...only about 7" long, with no fins or tails. Those are what I call "trash fish". But, the big largemouth and cats like them and they come in for dinner. I will be serving the big boys an alternative to trout.

I will check again this weekend, but the weeds near shore have still not died out as they usually do during the winter. That makes it tough to fish flies shallow. The fly flingers last week spent more time unhooking pieces of weeds than fishing.

Not my style. I'll bring my swimmies and Charlies. I have a few different sizes to choose from. I need to bring an auxillary tube to bring all the good stuff.

That is the new craze now over here. Dudes are launching with an auxillary raft just to bring out their ice chest and tackle box for their float tubes. It is quite a site to see. I'll get some pics this weekend before we head out there if I can spot one of those loonies.

[cool]Yeah, I am just waiting to see some dude in a tube towing out a big pontoon party barge.

Actually, the idea of a supply station is not new. I was doing that when all of us looney tuners were fishing Pelican during the summer. We would bring along a big inner tube with a cooler wedged in the middle. We would tow it out and anchor it in the middle of the area we fished, for anyone who was thirsty or hungry to paddle up and upload. Only problem was that what goes in must come out...and we still had to make trips to the shoreline to "download".

Fishing from a flotation craft does force one to think carefully about just how much they REALLY need out there. You will get a chance to play with a Fat Cat while you are here, and I think you will be impressed with the size of the storage pockets.

I'm really looking forward to it. It looks like I may be stuck with a docking station myself one of these days unless I can find a way to stretch my pockets on the tube.
