Ribz pack
#1
I picked up a Ribz pack on sale recently, and I really like it for my fishing stuff. I got it from 7 Summits Gear of Sandy, Utah.

This is what they are: http://www.ribzwear.com/

It is the right height to stay out of the water when wading. It doesn't interfere with casting or bending over. (That probably is dependent on how full it gets filled though.) Since the bags off set to each side, it is still easy to see where I am walking. Anyway it is another option for a front style pack. If I am taking a lunch etc I throw my sling pack on too. ...... I probably look like ....... but I am comfortable charging through the brush!

Sorry, I guess there are a lot of different ones on there. [blush]

It is like this, but mine is dark green instead of black, and he is wearing it down closer to his waist than I do. I like how it fits a little higher up, but everyone is different.

I must have gotten the last one on that sale....

Here is a simplified picture.

That is cool...on the sides, but it doesn't get in the way of stripping? I will admit, my sling does at times.

I thought it would get more in the way than it does.... At least so far. Also I think everyone fishes and casts a bit different. What I like someone else may find it miserable and unusable. It may depend on how much you have packed into it and where you pack it. Whether more in the front or further back. The main pocket also has some pockets in it to separate things.

I have tried regular chest packs and they made it difficult to see my footing. I can see better with this one, and I like the balanced feel of it. It is more like wearing a vest, but with bigger and better pockets. It is easy to organize and see where things are.

I hadn't seen one before either. I ran across it as I was looking to make a somewhat similar pack, and I was researching ideas.

On sale it was worth the risk to try out. The regular priced ones are spendy. I think you could look at one in Sandy, Utah at 7 Summits Gear.

I have a sling pack...not a special designed one for flyfishing... more of a book bag...I tend to put too much in it. The only problem with it is sometimes it will swing forward. I like it, but it is heavier and hangs up on brush.

I like having options to use different packs or combinations of packs depending on where I am going and how long. Or maybe I just like TOYS!!!

I get the side thing, that is why I went with a sling. The satchels are cool also. Can't wait to see this in person C. Hoping to get on some rivers with you this year,

C...

do you wear it like the guy in the second picture... high up on your chest... ?? is it adjustable between the bags??

I have one of the older orvis sling packs and when I do go fishing I like using that one.. I had a problem with it coming forward when I bent over to pick up something I dropped but then figured out there is a waist strap as well... so once but can see some advantages to the higher front pack like this one..

hopefully you can give us some feedback on it after you have given it a good trial... :-)

I like it a little - higher more like the guy in the Amazon picture, but I imagine I will be trying more adjustments. Maybe depending on what I pack in it. I think I will make a holder for my bear/moose spray for the shoulder strap.

The waist strap on the sling pack sounds like it would really help out. Does it just clip on your belt, or is there a full belt strap that goes around your waist?

It would be a blast to fish some rivers with you! I wonder how the spring runoff is going to be this year. I need to get back out on a river. Ice fishing is ok, but it isn't nearly as fun as fly fishing a river.

That does look fun. Unfortunately I am going to have to travel further to get on some decent rivers with less ice. But with the weather we have had I can't complain about no chances to get out.
