Fishing at Rocky Point Today (10/1)
I had a great time on my first SWR (shallow water rockfish) trip of the season today (Wednesday). Although the Premier is licensed for 96 (big boat), we had less than 20 anglers aboard today. The skipper (danny), cook (Karl), and deck (Jimmy) are all licensed captians so we had lots of experience on deck today! ha ha
We got our bait, comprised of both 4 inch anchovies and sardines at LA Harbor's bait receiver and headed to the fishing grounds off Rocky Point and further up into Santa Monica Bay.
All anglers came back with full sacks with almost everybody getting a shot at a Ling cod. I caught one legal and my buddy took the jackpot, beside me, with an ounce heavier Ling! ha ha Well maybe two ounces.
Chilipeppers, White Fish, Ling Cod, Red Snappers, Salmon Grouper (released), big Sculpin, and various rockfish
came over the side with regularity. The weather was beautiful, water almost glassy and a cool breeze blowing with a strong current. 4 ounces just about kept one on the bottom. Lings were going for both the sardines/anchovies and the frozen squid that was being used on the other types of rockfish.
Had a great time and the boat ended up with a pretty good count too.
