Bandwagon Jumper - Mohave 10/22/11
#1
So I read the post about the great fishing trip that guy with his little girl had down at lake Mohave so I decided to make a trip down there. It was first time launching out of cottonwood cove, nice marina. Broke out at first light, say tons of shad just outside the marina. Dropped a vertical jig, hit two 2lbers. real quick but i wanted some of those 5 to 10 ten pounders. So i shot over to Arizona side and started trolling. Got a 3lber about 30 minutes later. By the time the sun peaked its head up I made my way to the where the river opens up to the lake. I busted out the binoculars and what do i see? A huge boil about a mile away. Pull up the trolling lines and shoot over. From about 7:30am to 11:30am it was random boils all morning. Fish were from 5 lb to about 8 lb. Anywhere from 15ft of water, ( I saw them swimming below the boat) to 50 ft of water. There were pauses in the boil action so i dropped vertical jigs and hit about 12 fish on that. Overall about 35+ fish that day the smallest about 3lb, largest about 10 lbs. kept 9 of them, wife was a bit upset about the 20 lbs of meat that came home [sly]. Released the rest. I will be back next week. Wind picked up around 11:00am and had to head back in. Have to say my greatest day of fishing that I can remember.

I thought they don't start stocking trout at lake Mohave until November, which is right around the corner. I know they stock at willow beach every Friday.

Yup next mOnth for sure.... Gotta face it trout make it there from willow I don't care what any one says lol.... 3000 trout per week at willow sure some get ate but others make it down there... I saw tons of baby trout by the marina down there so I know they had a spawn down there some where....just not many people fish for them since there rare.... Hell there not common in the river either but yet people go back over and over after getting skunked 10 times in a row.... Smart fish dumb people haha.... I'm a addicted dummy [bobhappy]

I am pretty sure Mohave wont be stocked with trout again unless they are going with another hatchery or an group outside of NDOW. The below link is from this year and says no more stalking....

Of course I have to thank wolf4evr for the report or I would have never went down there. It was amazing day of fishing and strange that no one was around me for miles. I talked to a few guys at the marina who fished that same morning they didn't know about it and only had a few dinks to show. No one else had a day like I did. Really surprised the news of the great fishing location on Mohave hasn't spread.

I was in the white champion and undurtow was in his black targa aka (captslayalot)

Mohave was awesome even before this rash of stripermania, the bass fishing is just insane there and everything about that place is just better.[fishin]

Yeah, we worked for a while in that area and had some fun and then went to work on some bass. We left after the wind kicked up. Im glad you got into some fish, we didnt see any boils but still had great action just trolling the points and flats. The striper are really healthy right now and are fighting great. I took one 4lber home and had fresh tacos that night. [Smile]
