So I went to the Berry yesterday and the day started out at 3:30 AM (way to Early). We ended up on the lake around 6:30 am and took a drive on the four wheelers. When we reached our destination we started to fish. We did pretty good right off the start. Everyone was catching good fish. Soon we had 2 cutts 23 inch and multiple that we turned back un-harmed. I made the comment to everyone that they can keep catching the fish in the slot but make room for my 28 incher that I'm bringing home.
At 11:10 I start to get a nibble on my rod, I reach down hoping for another and WAM I set the hook and there goes my drag with my 6lb test stretching with it. Straight down the hole, hitting my other rod I have set up. My ugly stick ice rod is nearly bent in half and my heart is racing. I start to yell to my buddies to help me, really I just needed them to see the fish by the hole in-case he gets off and I'm only left with a fish story. I finally get the fish worn out and near the hole. As I try and get his head up and through the hole my friend tries to get him out and he takes off again. Now I think now my friends are out to sabotage the moment and I need to do this on my own, so when I get him close again I reach in and grab his gill plates and pull him out. He seemed to just keep coming out of the hole. I laid on the ice looking in the sky in amazement. In reality I did not get my 28" fish it was 29.5 inches and weighed 9.5 lbs.
Now today the fish will be at the taxidermist and on my wall soon enough.
All in all it was a great day and worth the early wake up.
I was only able to put the one picture on right now but when I get the rest I will post more.
