Having a 2006 Mrec 40, the steering has stuck so the motor won't turn. I disconnected the cable and the wheel turns fine. I was told a sleeve for the shaft may be defective. Any one else have this problem before? Not happy seeing as this is only 4 years old.

its hard to believe that the sleeve is bad,my guess is The tilt tube is corroded, rusted or just full of hardened grease. You can try various ways to clean out the tube,. gun cleaning kit, dowel rod with sand paper wrapped at on end, a long round wire brush. BUT the best way to do it is with a reamer designed to clean the bore of the tube. . You might inquire at your favorite repair facility as to what they would charge to "Ream your Tube". It's a 5 minute job with the right tool. (The reamer was about $75)

I dropped it off yesterday to the local guy. I'm not to keen on opening a can of worms with a new motor. By the looks of the showroom they needed the work.

Picked up the boat and they tell me that when the motor was installed they put very little grease in the cylinder. Packed it up and put a new seal. New plugs installed as well and out the door at $220.00
