#1
I have a strikemaster 6" auger that was gave to me it will cut 1 hole like butter but i will get about halfway on the next hole and it will die. If i let it sit and cool down it will do the same thing. Anybody got any ideas what could be wrong ?? Thank for any help.

Check this first....

you have the oil mix to thin. They require I think 40-1 mix.

The other thing is....

It needs a valve job.

Posibley cleaning or replacing the valve and macheining the valve seet.

be sure you use gas stableizer in your oil mixed gas... This will help to keep every thing clean...

On top of the motor it says the mix is 25:1 so i think the mix is ok. It doesn't make a difference what i do with the choke. just seems to get hot and dies. It runs really well intel it gets hot. thanks for the help.

Does it have a vented gas cap?
If so, it must be open when running,

Several other potential problems.
Carb not adjusted for altitude
Carb is dirty
Bad gas

here is where the argument starts, All 2 cycle oil mixes are not created equal. Dont let any one tell you they are.

some oils have to have a little more added and some less. When ever posible use what the manufacture says.

I have a new one I picked up last year, it has a vented cap, be sure to open the vent or it will shut down after one hole...

I also have an old jiffy with the choke that takes gear lube in the bottom and that if dry or old and chunky can bog down the motor and make it run hot and hard to start and stall out.

Think I will pull it out for a photo opp in the next day or two,

The carb should be adjusted for the right altitude the guy that used it before he gave it to me fished jackson a lot. i cleaned the carb when I got it so i think I am ok there. Got new gas. It does have a vented gas cap I will try this i think we might be on to something. Thanks for the help.
