STARVATION!!! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!
#1
I met up with fellow BFT members Sewfish and rustyhook this morning. It seemed like we both pulled up to the bridge at the same time right about 8:30ish. Temps were frigid, the truck thermometer said 8 degrees. Got out onto the ice with a surprising 3-4 inches in most places.(the ice was sketchy towards the middle of the lake) Sewfish got things started right off the bat with a chunky perch. Then rusty started putting the smack down with 3-4 nice ones in a row. Me, well........... nothing for a while. Many holes were drilled, checking depths and trying to find any forms of life on the flasher. Thanks again guys for drillin all those holes. Whatever kind of auger you had seemed to cut the ice like butter with a hot knife. It makes me think about how much more productive I could be while fishing if I got one too. Anyway back to the report. We were fishing near the bridge in about 40-50 feet of water, using spoons tipped with all sorts of bait, including wax worms crawler pieces and maggots were the ones that seemed to be working. I finally iced a 10 inch perch around 10:30 or so and someone flipped the switch and nothing else was pulled out. Fished till about 2:30 and decided to call it a day.

It was still great to not get skunked on my first ever Starvation ice fishing trip. I am glad I went and checked it out. The best part was of coarse meeting some new fishing buddies and sharing stories about past experiences.(GREAT COMPANY) Much to still be explored but I think it was a good start.

NO WALLEYE YET. I think they heard I was going fishing and got the heck out of there.

I would not get too confident and start fishing everywhere on the whole lake. It seemed like it is still in the first stages of freezing over. BE CAREFUL WHOEVER DECIDES TO MAKE THE TRIP

had a great time fishing with you, your trip home was a lot quicker than ours. next time we will have to get a earlier start since they filled their bellys for breaksfast on bugs.

Yea I could not believe what was spilling out of the throats of some of those perch. Makes me think about using some other tactics to see what might come of it. Anyways GOOD TIMES MAN lets do it again soon!!!!! Thanks again for letting me tag along. Maybe we will have more than one beer next time too.......lol

Great report FOD and Sewfish, I am looking forward to trying out the ice on Starvation this year with Chad. We've been talking about it since last spring!. Hey FOD, we'll give you a holler when we are heading up that way. Most likely after Christmas. Want to find some of those hog perch we were catching so many of during the Classic. I know on the second day Chad and I figured we threw at least 20 perch over 13 inches over the side. Never caught that many perch over 13 inches before and several were 14 which was definately my biggest perch.Sure would like to find a few through the ice. Maybe we can get Mike to come up, that is if he'll keep his mouth shut. Wouldn't want word to get out and ruin that honey hole![crazy]

Thanks for the advice buddy. Don't think the schedule will allow before Christmas, but we'll give it hell right after.

I've never fished Starvation, just driven into Duchesne and back out.

Where are the places to access the ice (assuming solid ice later on) including where you turn off of Highway 40.

It soulds like Starvation may be one of the better places for good sized Perch this year.

Thanks ahead of time for any directions you could give.

Ut Walleye,

Yes it is frozen by the dam. As of Monday, I didn't see any open water from the main boat ramp parking lot.

Ha Ha Tod[sly]. From what I hear of Starvation in the winter, we could leave flags on the ice where we caught fish and they still wouldnt bite! Shoot me a pm or give me a call, id be game to go up.

We parked right on highway 40 on the north side of the road, walked down that side follow the trail to the lake watch out about the ice right under the bridge so we walked up on the shore follow the trail. stayed on the ice, not the snow, the snow is where the slush is at. you should see all the holes. the morning was better before the had full a stomach of aquatic bug that are coming out of the mud. hope this helped. the ice is thin so be carefull. good luck.

Sorry I have been very busy the last couple of days so I could not respond to any of the questions. I think they got answered though thanks guys. I did drive over to knights hollow BTW and the whole bay is capped with quite a bit of snow on top of the ice. Then I drove over to the other campground(name?)as far as I could until I got stuck. The ice looked a little bit weaker for some reason but I didnt walk down and check if it was. So pretty much looks like it will freeze better this year than it did last year....yaaaa!!

Wet1, you guys should for sure give me a heads up when your going to go out. Now that Mike is in all we got to do is get Roger to get on the ice[:/] ...haha

Lots a luck getting Rog on the ice, can't believe he's from Wis. and doesn't ice fish.

P.S. That should get a rise out of him.[:p]
