Great Duck Day Saturday
#1
Hunted all day Saturday at one of the local marshes. I killed three in the early rush. It went dead after that. I hike clear out to where the air boaters hunt. The method to the madness is that when the air boaters head in for lunch they kick up large flocks of mallards that come into the marsh. Well it didn't happen saturday. No ducks when the air boaters left. I decided to pull an all dayer. I was so glad I did. The marsh was deserted after about 3 PM. At about four thirty the mallards started pouring back into my little hole in the frag. I don't know where they hung out at all day, but I was sure glad they decided to come back. Ended up finishing my limit with four big green heads. Packed the decoys up at five an started the long journey back to the car.

Sounds like you put the hurt on them. Tough slog through the frag though.

Great reports guys, shows if you put in the effort to get away from the crowds you can bring the ducks to the decoys.
Great job. thanks for posting.

No I don't usually hunt sundays but I am heading out in about an hour. Can't wait. Im glad I didn't go sunday. Looks like you guys killed all the birds that flew that day. Judging from the vegitation around the truck you weren't hunting at the marshes though. I think you were probably hunting a local resivour. My favorite places to hunt until december our some of the local resivours. The marshes don't get real good till later in the year.

No we were out in the marsh with the boat. The area we're at has sage and pastures all the way up to the cattails. I've never hunted the reservoirs, i figured they'd have rules about hunting because of the fishing/rec crowds, no? I'm headed out here soon to a new area i'm pretty stoked as well!

I'm not into walking two miles out into the swamp, but always try to find spots that get little pressure, and always keep an eye on where the ducks are flying and try to get as close as possiable to there flight line so they can see the decoys. I hunt out of a very lite rig that allows me to get to these spots, will have to get out sometime and I will show you how I play the game. beats walking and carrying all that gear.I use to do it that way but found a better way a long time ago. pm me and will get out if you want.
