Pics of Afghanistan

[cool][#0000ff]Got this Powerpoint file from another BFTer and thought I would post it here. A lot of us really have no idea about what the "Stan" looks like or the conditions our guys are dealing with. Looks like they could use some of Utah's orange cones.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]PS...you will not be able to open this file if you do not have Powerpoint on your computer.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]I lived in Arizona almost 20 years and wore out several 4X4s on the backroads. But, I don't recall having to deal with much of the stuff in that picture portfolio. No thanks.[/#0000ff]

Thanks Tube dude
My son and future son in law were both deployed this month and are currantly at camp pandleton on their way over in oct. Both just got engaged in july , So it gives me a few more grey hairs ( or more bald spots) It's good to see a little of what they'll be facing

[cool][#0000ff]My personal best wishes for your family members who will be deployed over there. None of us should have to experience war, or worrying about friends and family members who are on the front.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]While the pictures of the harsh landscape and terrain are kinda fascinating, the horrors of combat are something else. This series of pictures can only serve to make us ask "WHY WOULD ANYBODY EVER FIGHT TO THE DEATH OVER THIS GOD FORSAKEN COUNTRY?"[/#0000ff]

Amazing.
Looking at these, I wondered what the "Hook thing" is that has been mounted on the hood of many of those HumVees pictured. Does anybody know what they use it for?

[cool][#0000ff]Hard to guess, without seeing them in use. I am thinking either as a tow bar or for lifting by helicopter...if they are sturdy enough.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Then again, it could be something as simple as a mechanical turban remover.[/#0000ff]

They are for sling loading under a chopper to get you from point A to B quicker... We did this alot in Turkey back in the day....

Bigbassaholic is talking about the sling rings.... the hook "thing".... a chain is usually hung off of that and it is in the down position while the vehicle is moving in order to hit trip lines (wires) or catch pins for mines instead of the vehicle running over the IED or mine.
