Dutch Oven Help
#1
Does anyone know where I can find dutch oven liners made from aluminum foil, so I don't have to clean it out while camping? I have seen them somewhere, but can't remember where.

I have lined them with just regular foil when I was making a sticky devils food cake with marshmallow and caramel frosting.
I got brave and tried it without the liner and it cleaned fine. Fact is if your season is good you don't need a liner.

It should be seasoned okay, and I have cleaned them before, not too much trouble. Another reason for wanting the liners, is that I can prepare all the meals before hand, in the liners. That way I am not playing sous cheif, when I should be fishin....[Wink]

[#6000bf]I use foil for my deserts, it has always worked fine.[/#6000bf]

[#6000bf]IMO, its a good idea to do this. Even with proper seasoning, cooking strong game ie. moose, then cooking deserts, can leave a less desired taste.[/#6000bf]

Seen them in Riverdale last week and have purchased them at Smut and Eddies.

They work great. They only comein the 12", but then that is what most folks use. They are a little pricey compared to tin foil. I got them to just try and they work great. If I find myself hurried then I use them. If not hurried, I still use the wide heavy duty foil. you wont be dissapointed though

I have to admit...I saw the title of this thread and busted out laughing. Read it and then realized..."oh, questions about a legitimate dutch oven, not the kind that piss off the girlfriend"

You can reduce or even eliminate flavors in your oven by wiping it down with apple cider vinegar before you cook. Ron

Here in Idaho, Cal Stores has them. Sometimes Sportsman Wharehouse does also.

Thanks for helping me out, I am going to head over to smith and edwards tomorrow on my way to Willard, then on to Oneida Narrows for the weekend. I liked your toon set-up, I need something like that.

IMO
Using foil or liners takes away the whole purpose of a Dutch Oven. The flavor you get from your dutch oven being properly seasoned is what makes the food so good. If you are going to line the oven with foil or liners, you should just put you food in a pie tin and throw it in the coals of the fire.
No dutch oven should ever be lined with any foil or liners. Sorry to be the only one that disagrees, but my family has been cooking in dutch oven competitions for years and thats the key to amazing tasting food, like it or not. [Wink]

i have to agree with the hookster on this one having just enjoyed some inch and a half elk steaks done southwest syle in a dutch oven skillet.they were fantastic.have tried em in a convention pan and they are not the same.save the liners for what they are made for desert. heres the recipe for the elk steaks its easy and they are deliousious.1lb elk steaks cut thick i like my meat pink 1 packetsouthwestmarinade you put it on dry 1 teaspoon liquid smoke huck steaks in to a duthch oven skillet with some oil hot let meat sweat three times remove from heat add liquid smoke. its really good i normaly wrap all my elk in bacon and cook on the barbucue, but my daughter got me to try this and i really enjoyed it.
