Help finding gator gar

I'm wanting to catch a 25lb or more gator gar but don't what to drive all the way to Texas for memorial weekend. Does anyone know of a closer location I can catch one on a rod-n-reel and I can get my boat into, I have a 22' center console? I live close to Atlanta, Ga and don't mind driving up to 8 hours. I practice catch and release and fill free to e-mail me directly if you need to. I hear near mobile has some good fish but I don't know where to start, I would like to go to a spot where there are high numbers.
