Howdy Frank, I drew a SE Gen deer tag and that's it. Beats last year when I didn't draw a darn thing. Getting used to the whole "donating" part of the Utah application process.[Wink]

How is it that my group didn't draw for SE but you did?!?
This is the first time in...6? years I haven't hunted SE. I drew a Northern general tag, another bonus point for a buck, and once again, I did not draw out for moose but still got the bonus point hooray [:/].
Now I have to figure out where in the Northern section I'm going to hunt. I don't even know where to start, it never occurred to me that my first two choices would fail...

Thats great Pete. I had to take points this year with my daughters health. I couldnt plan a hunt with the points I have and not have plenty of time to take off. I have to put as much time as I can away for when We do a transplant. Which by the way might be soon!

Wishing you all the best for your daughter. Hopefully next year will work out much better as far as your hunts go. I talked to the guy that runs the hunts on the unit I drew for, and the proclamation is a little misleading as far as the Nov. hunt goes. He allows only one day to hunt in Nov. and the other 4 days are in Oct. I think the proclamation should reflect that but with the CWMU hunts this doesn't surprise me. They are geared toward the land owners or the lease operators. The only decent one that I have seen is the one run by DLL and they treat all hunters the same, when I guided there you hunted the same areas and time the paying customers do and have the same guides. You ate meals and were lodged together in the same areas. Hopefully this won't be a bust like the wife's CWMU elk hunt was a few years ago, I can't believe that guy is still allowed to operate with all the complaints he has had filed against him. [mad]

[#6000bf]That is how all CWMU's should be ran. I really hope your hunt goes well. It absolutely infuriates me when I hear of [/#6000bf][#6000bf]"drawn" hunters being treated terribly. I have said it over [/#6000bf][#6000bf]and over, if the operator does not like the rules, they DO [/#6000bf][#6000bf]NOT have to sign up for the program.[/#6000bf]
[#6000bf][/#6000bf]
[#6000bf]Until he DWR holds them accountable, nothing will change. My dad drew a CWMU several years ago. It came time to hunt and he said my dad could only hunt with a Muzz and had to hunt early. However, the "paying" hunters hunted through November and could rifle hunt.[/#6000bf]
[#6000bf][/#6000bf]
[#6000bf]It shouldn't be like this. Fortunatley I knew the owners son and he changed his tune and we had a good hunt.[/#6000bf]
[#6000bf][/#6000bf]
[#6000bf]I jope you post your experience and I do hope you are successful.[/#6000bf]

That's pretty stupid, but it doesn't surprize me at all. I actually was part of the reason that they updated the DWR system. I complained just about everyday about not having any CWMU info and I cantacted the Coordinator several times asking for this. He knows exactly who I am and hates me with a passion. He thinks they run the best operation out there and that no owner has ever been disrepsectful to any public hunters. They are all a bunch of money hungry bass turds IMO.
You are right about DLL though, I have hunted it twice and had great experiences both times, Except for carrying an antelope over my shoulders for 2 miles, but that's my fault [pirate]
I also saw that DLL will let the deer hunters have 10 days instead of the minimum 5 days. That shows you right there that they run a good equal operation for the private and public. If only they could all be like that.
I promise you guys if I ever win the lottery, I will buy a CWMU and treat everybody to a fair hunt. Maybe I'll screw over the rich guys instead [sly]

Anywho, Have a good hunt and kill us a biggun [Wink]

The CWMU I was referring to about the wife's elk hunt was the Weber Florence Creek unit. Day before our hunt opened they ran 5000 head of Range Magots thru the area to the loading chutes. This hunt is on the 1000 Peaks Ranch and they only let the CWMU Elk hunters hunt from the Weber River to the top of the ridge line to the North, this extends 3-4 miles up river from the main entrance at the turn off to Smith Morehouse. We saw a few elk but nothing worth shooting, one guy from Ogden killed one the first day a 6X6 that would maybe score 270 to 280. My wife ended up shooting a spike the last afternoon just so we could take home some meat. I'm hoping with the WY. tags we drew this year that she will have an opportunitiy to take a decent bull during our archery hunt. Several guys here at the base drew that same tag 2 seasons ago and nobody that drew a tag for the unit killed a bull the first 5 days so after alot of complaining to F&G and the Outfitter they were allowed to hunt a second period for 5 days and still didn't see any bulls to shoot. Mind you these guys weren't looking for 350 bulls at that stage of the game and would have taken rag horns but couldn't even locate a bull in the unit. They said they didn't think anyone else that drew tags killed any bulls either. These guys were young guys that covered all of the country in their designated area. They filed a big grievance with Fish & Game but I see the the operator is still running hunts on the unit.

SWEET I drew my first choice Southern Deer. I have not drawn a tag of any kind since 2005. Now I can redeem my unsuccessful hunt last time I drew!! Looks like I will be hunting turkeys and deer down on the boulder this year.

I'll be getting a southern utah muzzle loader tag this year. I thought I would try something different this year, so I told them, "give me a southern tag", it's great to tell them what I want[Smile].

Big UN- for me but not a big deal I'm still banking on deer in Wyo. and Colo. It will still be a busy fall though. Had a good friend draw early rifle on the Pahvant plus my brother-in-law drew the premium tag on the Pahvant, he is one lucky guy to draw that tag with only 4 points. My friend had max so we were hoping it would be this year. Good luck to everyone this fall.
