Sand Hollow UT report
#1
I finally made it down to Sand Hollow, and I stayed there from Friday evening to Sunday evening. The fishing was sporadic to say the least, and the fish seemed a lot more reluctant to bite than on previous trips. Of course, the whacky weather we've been having hasn't helped.
I started out on Friday night fishing a shaky head rigged Senko and picked up 3. This took place during a wind / rain storm. Saturday I started up around 7am and caught fish slowly but consistently throughout the day, even though it was windy and rainy and cold. They were very picky about bait selection though. They started biting on the same Senko's, then wouldn't touch them. Picked one or 2 up on a crank bait, then for the next few hours the only thing they wanted was tube jigs. Then they ignored those, so I switched to regular jigs w/ a crawfish imitation trailer, and that worked for a bit, then it was back to Senkos & tube jigs. Couldn't get a bite on a variety of spinner baits I threw. I think I ended up with 18-20 on Sat.
Caught 2 on Sunday in rapid succession right off the bat on a texas rigged hula grub, then nothing for the rest of the day using the same baits & locations that had worked before, plus many others. Also tried many locations on the lake without any success. It was a beautiful sunny day though so I can't complain.
90% of the fish I caught were in 12-18 feet of water. Didn't see any beds, and also didn't see any bluegill which was kind of odd since they usually like to surround the boat. Most of the fish caught were by using a very SLOW retrieve, or dead sticking. Also had a lot of very gentle pick and drops. All fish were released unharmed. I'll post some pictures as soon as I figure out where I put my camera cable.

I know right where you were fishing in those pics. If we can get some steady weather for a week I would be in that same spot.
What brand of shakey head were you using?

Yeah, that is a good spot. As far as the weather is concerned...I hear it's supposed to start getting steady in July this year. This is ridiculous...probably more snow this week again. The brand of the jig head: I think the one you see in the picture was something I picked up at Sportsmans. I can't find the package they came in. They have a really flat head, and you run your line through the bottom and attach with a split ring. Apparently it is supposed to help keep the bait upright. I also use the Gambler "Giggy Head" quite a bit.
