Yes there are areas where you can target sturgeon from shore with out having to use those sling devices.
where, I realy dont know, I live in michigan. we do have a couple members who have posted some pics on this bord about the subject if you read down a little further. If your in a hurry I will be happy to look up the info and post a link to the articals here.
sturgeon feed year round, I am primarilary a night fisherman when it comes to sturgeon, but they do feed day and night.
I like to target them on worm summer nights. but I have caught them on cold nights as well, here in the mitten state we have a lake where guys fish for them though a hole in the ice all winter....

Hi BigD, first of all, welcome to BFT! We love having new people to share lies with about the biggun that got away.... or the biggun that we brought home but didn't take a pic of.
I've heard that the sturgeon fishing is starting to pick up. There's several places along the rivers banks that you can fish from. I haven't fished for them myself but from what I've been told, you should do just fine with a good quality, long length sturgeon rod (suggested length is minimum 13', preferably a 15' rod). The best area to fish in, from what people tell me, is up in the Bonneville Dam area. The preferred food for the sturgeon gets a little dicey as they go through the turbines of the dam.
When you get there, there's usually a guard at the gate asking if you're heading to the visitors center. Just tell him/her that you're there to do some sturgeon fishing and ask where the fishing is allowed and they'll give you the info you need.
When you're in the area, let me know! I'll keep ya company.
