Leatherneck and I decided to head to the lower end of Guntersville. We fished from 8am-2pm central. We were excited about the weather report and figured the big bass would be feeding up, but obviously they were not in the mood. Leatherneck boated the first fish (a 3lber) at our first stop and we thought things would be on, but we only managed one more small bass a bluegill and a giant gizzard shad. We fished flats and humps working around old grass lines in 3-6ft. From Waterfront to Browns Creek covering a lot of ground. We fished traps, cranks, swimbaits, soft plastics, and jerk baits. Both fish came on traps. We had probably a dozen slaps at our baits and the fish would shake off, You'd be cranking along and wham! Then it would come free!? The water was 43 and 47 by the time we left. Also the lake was very low and it dropped about 6 inches while we were there. It had pulled alot of the old dead grass off the banks and out of the creeks and was floating everywhere which made cranking tough. Although the bite was slow I learned a lot about an area of the lake I dont know so well. Lots less pressure down there it seems. After being in the hospital with the youngun all week, this sun/ windburn feels good! I'm heading back down next weekend and hope to see warmer water at normal levels.
