Not much if anything. Jack rabbits out in the desert. But as far as what you can eat, Try the local phesant preserves where you buy your birds. Good luck

Remember preserve birds are only hunted 7 months out of the year.

Jack rabbits can be hunted all year, but I'm not sure I'd eat one. House sparrows and starlings are technically the only birds not protected around here, but I've not met an officer that will ticket you for whacking crows, ravens, or magpies.

One last thing you can hunt all year would be the eurasian collared dove. You've got to know what you are trying to ID and shoot, but they are not protected, and are pretty good eating as well. If you are new to hunting, I wouldn't advise going out after them unless you have someone with you confident in identification. It's rare to see a mourning dove this time of year, but there are a few around, so you don't want to get a ticket because of improper identification.

No they have a season and dates when they can be hunted. You should pick up a small game proclamation and familiarize yourself with it. They are free and at almost any sporting goods store.

clay pigeons, go to the turkey/meat shoots and you can go home with a good amount of meat and you don't have to clean em. ogden gun club or brigham are good ones if you live up north. look into it, its a good opourtunity to learn to shoot better, take the kids out and get gun safety burned into there brain, and it is a hell of a lot of fun. Good year round sport.

The Eurasian Collared Dove can only be hunted during Utah's dove hunt. You can find its description on page 39 in this guidebook.. Not to rain on your parade, just want you to stay out of trouble!!! I think if you look closely you will see seasons for the mourning dove and white wing doves. If you shoot the collared doves during the hunt you must leave the plumage on them so they don't count as part of your 10 bird bag. There is no season or limit on these new exotic birds. They are considered the same as starlings. gshorthair

i have found them out in the west desert just not during the season on my wheeler. Im sure there out their though ive got some german wirehairs lets go find them Ill show ya. One more thing but its kinda difficult to do but the DWR has put a number of guzzlers out their and release birds near by. I have found a couple of these guzzlers while dove hunting a few years ago and heard them chucklin all morning. If you want to do some homework for yourself you might try google map and follow the dirt roads they have all over out their only problem- they did a few this last year and might not be on the out dated satellite maps but not sure. Hope you get into them!! As far as the euro doves they are good eating and are by far your best bet for table fare year round their just spread out everywhere. and yes they are the ones in the back yard that your wondering why they are still around in the cold weather. HEARTY DOVES
