I fish a small lake near my house, and know there are a good number of crappie in it. I've caught em on a green clouser minnow and even a piece of shrimp. A buddy of mine caught one on a white curlytail grub. I know there are better baits out there though. What crappie lure works best for you?
P.S.- The water is stained, it is about 90 degrees out here, and the pond is good sized(pretty deep in the middle with good cover near the shore).
Thanks,
Bassmasta

[fishin] I have caught crappie with a hot pink maribou jig in the middle of august - 12 feet deep. Have also caught with white road runner using a 11' jig pole.
I also like using southern Pro stinger tubes with jig heads to match the tube, usually 1/16th. I consistantly catch them with black/chartruese.

I use a Jack Gartside pattern - the gurgler. It's a simple fly to tie and makes for great surface action in the shallow waters. just twitch it on the surface in amongst the lily pads and those crappies can't resist it. Being on the surface means you get to see all the action too, which is great for kids just starting out fishing with a fly.

My favorite crappie lure is a salt and pepper tube jig, but sometimes I will use other colors. However the place I am fishing now is smaller and I had to go to 3 inch curly tail grubs. ( yellow ) I would have thought small baits would be fine in this "smaller" place, but it just doesn't seem to work.
On the other hand, minows work wonders!
