New to Michigan
#1
Hey guys....been reading dome of your threads and I got a cople of ?'s. I have lived in So. Cal. for the last 19 years and moved up here to get out of LA. I live on (well right off) Deer Lake in Clarkston (between Detroit and Flint). I have been fishin this lake with everything I got...spinners, spoons, jigs, worms, minnows.....and have caught nothing but a mess of bluegill. I have seen some big 'ol bass and pike early in the mornings[Image: happy.gif]...but not biting on anything I give them.[mad]
Now I am no expert fishermen....I have not fished regularly like this since I was a kid....but I caught some decent fish where I grew up (Oklahoma) and am quite embarressed with my performance thus far. Any suggestions? I've tried shallow water...weed beds...deep water...bangin spinners off of logs and points...nothin seems to work...anything would be of great help.

Thanks!!

I'll P.M. our local bass pro "BASSASS" for you , he can fish bass like you wouldn't belive . It may take some time for a reply , he has a very busy schedule this year .

My thoughts are ;
You stated the gill population is high in the lake and from my expearance I know the bass shure have a taste for those gills .
You might have to try some larger lures in order to get the attention you are looking for from the big hawgs .

Almost everyone in my area has great sucess with the large tube-baits .
Colors and brands are something else , everyone has their favorite and swears by them . I haven't come across any two guys fishing that can agree on a particular tube to use for the finicky bass .
If you had posted this a little over a week ago I had a whole slew of the larger lures I could have sent to you for free .
Roosterfish stopped by for fathers day weekend and he ended up with three storage boxes of my hard body bass lures to try on his muskey lake .

So , are you ready for the winters around here ?
I have a co-worker that is from southern cal who got his first taste of the hard weather and couldn't belive the extream change in climate and driving conditions .

Praticly neighbors.

I am about 20 miles south of you.

My thoughts are;

[ol][li]you have not mastered the presentation of your lures yet, meaning you may need to either speed up [/li][li]or slow down your reel, [/li][li]You may need to add a dead drop to your presentation, "this is a must for Big Bass" bass tipicaly hit during the drop.[/li][li]you may want to use a hullapopper for morning and evenings, yellow or wattermellon or black near weed beds or on top of drop offs. Be sure you use a bubble and a good 5 foot of line between your popper and your bubble.[/li][li]live bait is hot, try leaches under a bobber near docks in the mornings.[/li][/ol]I could go on, but then if I met ya in a compitition I would be compeating against my self...

Good luck, and welcome to bigfishtackle....
Be sure to let us know if your skills improve... [Image: happy.gif]
