Need some help
#1
Put a brand new Lowrance X96 fishfinder on last year, and it worked great. Didn't change anything from last year, I took my boat out for the first time this weekend and fishfinder was crap, wouldn't read more than 25' of water if any, picked up no fish at all and would not read anything when boat was moving. Just wondering if the cold winter would have broken the transducer, or if anyone else has had this problem in the past. Any suggestions would help.

That's a drag. I've never heard of cold weather doing in a transducer, but they can go bad. Was the display unit stored inside?

But, if all the settings were right, and sensitivity turned up, it sure sounds like a transducer issue. I'm assuming the transducer was aimed directly down and didn't get kicked up by a log or something. That would certainly produce what you're talking about, too.

Yeah the transducer was pointed straight down like it was supposed to be and I did store the display monitor inside all winter. It's just a bummer that it worked perfect last year, now it doesn't work, and it's only one year old. Well I tweaked a couple things and I'm gonna give it one last chance before i go drop some money on a new transducer. Well thanks for the info...appreciate it.

Don't the Lowrace units have 1 year warranty? Are you beyond that?

yeah i'm beyond the 1 year warranty....if i send it in it'll cost me a hundred bucks, like i said i'm gonna mess with it some more this weekend and if it's still junk looks like i'm out a hundred bucks and a fish finder for about 4-5weeks.

I wish I had some more ideas for you. I might have a transducer that will work with that model unit. If so, you could borrow it and see if that's the problem if you're interested. I'm in the Littleton area.

That would be great! My office is located in the littleton area, pretty much by Santa Fe and 470. If you don't mind me borrowing it, i sure would appreciate it. I'm planning to take my boat out on this Sunday so maybe we could get together. Just let me know how you want to go about doing it.

I'll check tonight to see whether I still have it and let you know. My office is at Broadway and Mineral, so we're really close.

Ok buddy sounds good, and if you don't have it don't worry about it.

Sure sounds like a transducer but it could just be the connection at the unit. Had my speed-o-meter acting up one time and found the connection loose and a little corroded. I see Cabelas sells those transducers for $55.00. If that is the problem.

CLB-

I don't have the X96 transducer. Sorry to get your hopes up.

I hate it when stuff doesn't work. I had my boat out 3 weeks ago and everything was fine. Then last weekend my sonar/gps has no power. Checked the fuses, all the connections and can't find as problem.

So last night I rewired everything and now all is fine, but what in the world caused that? Beats me.

I hate gremlins!

Yeah I hate it to, figures it has to happen the weekend before my "family tournament" but stuff happens, I'll still win anyways!! [Smile] But I do appreciate it Don, maybe my rewiring and messin around will help and if not I'll just buy a new transducer.

Good luck with your tournament. Stretch some string and cross their eyes!
