The Department of Natural Resources today announced that its Fisheries Division is seeking public input on a draft proposal to increase the number of lines (rods) allowed for use while fishing. If adopted, the regulation would apply on all Great Lakes and inland waters.

Currently, recreational anglers are limited to two single lines or two single rods and lines while fishing. One exception exists that allows anglers trolling for trout or salmon in the Upper Great Lakes to use three lines. The regulation change under consideration is to allow anglers the use of three lines statewide. The existing regulations have been in place for more than 80 years. The DNR views this proposal as an opportunity to increase angler satisfaction by allowing additional effort, without harming the resource.

I'm against it , there is really no need for the additional rods to be used .

I am with you. I do alot of river fishing, and it is hard to get 1 line in sometimes. There are some people that would like it as they already use that many. That is why I do not fish that area anymore (Leforge dam).

I'm gonna say NO... most of the time people want more lines in the water is cuz they cant catch fish ..... 2 lines in fine...if ya cant catch fish i say spend more time on the water ..or find a fishing buddy to show you how to fish .... every time the DNR stick there nose in stuff it gets all messed up...if they do let people use more lines ..sure they will get more fish ..but ....... we will be like alot of other states that don't have as many fish as Michigan does...... and people are startin to keep everything they catch.....I say only keep what u want to eat ....let the others go.......i thought the reason for the increse to the size years ago was so we would have bigger fish in the water? thats Bull cuz every time some one catches a nice fish they keep it..... leave it the way it is and let people learn how to fish .... spend more time on the water like I do..people want to go to a Lake and catch fish on the first cast with 10 poles????? Learn like the rest of us.... thats the reason they want it to be more lines...people don't know how to fish and are bitchin cuz they spend all the money going to the lake and don't know what to fish with or fish for or even know how to fish ...if the DNR does do this ..say good by to the nice fish we do have here in the great state of Michigan...

It's already crowed enough on the piers. I'm with Basss... learn how to fish or find a fishing buddy. 2 lines is enough.

I am going to say yes but limited to tip ups only as the third line for ice fishing.... (one line and two tipups, or two lines and one tipup, or three tipups)

I wouldnt mind having two tipups out when I am out on the lake.... two tipups and a jigging rod for ice fishing, things couldnt get much better,....

I guess I wouldn't mind 3 if it were limited to ice fishing and tips ups as you suggested.

Anyone else have any comments on this subj?

I'm going to cut copy and paste this thread to the DNR. After all.... they are requesting comments on this subject.
