Mojave Narrows
#1
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site, and really glad I found it! So much helpful info. This weekend I'm going to the Mojave Narrows for the trout derby. Does anyone know of a particularly good spot or anyone else going?

[cool][font "Pristina"][green][size 4]Hi there dns_mesa and welcome to the BFT. Seems like there is a trout derby going on just about every week in one of the Regional Parks. Turner Outdoors is a major sponsor. Sorry to say that I have never been to one but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be fun. Perhaps TN2 might have some info as to where the best catch is going to be. BTW is this the derby that is to be held in the Victorville area? [Image: fish-on.gif][/size][/green][/font]

You know, they do hold the derbies pretty often in the regional parks. It's just good fun to head out early early in the morning, load up the truck and go.
And you're right, it's the one in Victorville.

Welcome aboard dns_mesa and thanks for sharing with us here on the boards.

Mojave Narrows is a fun place to fish. There really is not one spot that is better than another over there since they plant the fish all over the lake.

Some of your best bets on bait would have to be the Crave Nitro products. They have the Power bait looking dough, Nitro Gravy as well as Nitro Grease.

When Turners sponsors and event, that is the formula for their derbies.

Just in case you wanted to get around using the smelly stuff, I always recommend the Trout Traps. Different colors work in different areas but the winter/spring trout seem to like the Halloween color most of the time.[cool]

Thanks for the info TN2. The Narrows was a fun place to fish. Saturday morning was very cold and very windy it snowed lightly as well. We actually fished a little to the left of the snack stand, right where the catches were being weighed in.
I saw your post a little too late but ended up using orange and pink Power Bait. The area we were at ended up being a good place for that as opposed to jigging.

I ended up coming in 16th with a monster! 1lb 8 ounces!![Wink] The winner I think was 12lbs and change. Looking forward to going back.
