Lake Maps
#1
I recently found some lake maps through the DNR website of my local lake that I fish, but after reading them a little closer, I found that they are from 1968. Would that information of the bottom contours be accurate to this date? Seeing that no major man made or induced changes have taken place. I would really like to use these maps because they are very informative but im a little bit iffy on the whole date issue.

There would be some silting in, but for the most part they would still be fairly accurate, there would just be a some silt accumulated over the whole bottom. Unless the lake was VERY old, or there was a great deal of spring runnoff that brought a huge load of silt in, it would still be fairly accurate.

I agree, hold on to them and use them, chances are good thay may be more accurate than the general maps you pick up off the shelf today.. "Not better than the conturing maps you buy off the computer and CD's"

I used to have some old waterway maps from back in the 60's they showed by far more geographic conturing than todays maps I pick up off the shelf at my bait shops, they showed every little creek, dranage ditch that a fish could get up in to...

so unless some one has filled in, put in a dam, taken out a dam lakes dont change that much in 100 years... swamps on the other hand can dry up or open up or do both...

Thanks for the advice! I'll definately keep them close at hand this year on the ice.
