I used to believe that sturgeons only reach snake river below shoshone falls.
On Oct.23, the IDFG brought 74 hatchery white sturgeon, ranged in age from 3 to 7 years old and were 18 inches to 3 feet long, into the river near the falls in downtown Idaho Falls.
what surprised me is the news siad that
"Similar introduction efforts, begun in 1990, on the Snake River below American Falls have proven successful."
So there is actually white sturgeons in snake river between American Falls dam and Lake Wokott?
never seen any of them here.
Anybody can confirm or deney this?

Historically, there have been huge sturgeon caught in the area where they've been planting the sturgeon in Idaho Falls. My father has told me stories about sturgeon being pulled out of the river with a team of horses, and there is pictoral documentation at the museum of Idaho on Elm street, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if the sturgeon were able to get above the falls at Idaho Falls, and I believe that the population of sturgeon came about before Shoshone Falls came into being at the time of the Lake Bonneville conflagration, because they wouldn't have been able to run above those falls. Those sturgeon in the river around Idaho Falls were harvested to extinction sometime in the early part of the century. It'll be interesting to see if they can keep them close to where they were planted.

I can confirm sturgeon in the river between Lake Walcott and American Falls Dam. My Brother-In-Law was fishing near Eagle Rock when he came across an older gentleman fighting a very big fish. When he landeded it both were suprised to see a sturgeon. There are also many reports of people seeing them rise right below the American Falls Dam. I also know of a sturgeon caught a few miles down river from Lake Walcott as well. Hope this information helps.

This is exciting. I¡¯m not that greedy trying to catch one. I will be happy enough just seeing one some time around here, say AF dam, Massacre Rocks, or Milner.
Will be up to IF for shopping today, and will definitely check the water above the dam to see if it¡¯s the lucky day for me.

Hopefully people will respect the sturgeon tht have been released in the Idaho Fals area. It will be 20 years before they reach the size that makes them fun. I am sure people will be picking up the small ones in the next couple of years I just hope they carefully release them so we can enjoy some real giants before I die.[crazy]
